CHAPTER I: THE PROBLEM AND ITS SETTING INTRODUCTION It is very evident that Filipinos love food, it can be seen by the numerous food stalls all over the Philippines. According to Maria Sanchez, former restaurant owner,"We love to eat, we don't only eat three times a day, but it's our tradition to have at least two meriendas or snacks in between." But when it comes to unusual foods, how well can Filipinos adapt to the different feel of the food that is unfamiliar to them? These unusual foods are referred to as exotic foods. Exotic foods are foods that a person finds strange or unfamiliar. Exotic food can be unusual types of meats, fruits, vegetables or spices or it can be the way that the food is prepared. According to Sherry, “Balut is very popular not just with locals but also with foreigners.
