Exit Through the Gift Shop What Parents Need To Know: This is a stimulating documentary about street art, a style of art that intentionally crosses a line and the artists who make it. It also shows the fascinating story of how Thierry, the videographer, transforms into an artist himself, or does he? Questions have been raised about the truthfulness of the film and it's main character, a point that actually heightens the interest in watching the film. Age Appropriateness: Even though this movie has an 'R' rating I would say it is appropriate for teens aged 14 and older to watch with their parents. Sex and Nudity: There are no sex scenes but there are images and art work shown that have adult themes or depict same sex kissing. Violence and Gore: A few scenes of people running from or being arrested by police but none of them turn violent. The main character does fall from a latter and get injured but the accident is shown in still frames, so it is not particularly graphic. Later scenes show bruising and deodorization of his face and foot. Profanity: There is some swearing, both verbal and written on walls and in subtitles. Drugs and Alcohol: Towards the end of the movie the main character is shown chain smoking and following his accident is said to be on painkillers. He appears to be under their effect in one scene. What Is The Story? Exit Through The Gift Shop is a documentary about the man who tried to make a documentary about Banksy. Thierry Guetta is a native Frenchman who relocated to Los Angeles in the 1980's and ran a successful vintage clothing shop. He also had a love of filming everything; from going to the bathroom and washing his hands, to playing with his children, to just walking around town, he captured every moment of his ordinary life on film.
