A church’s position on liberty has an overwhelming influence on church policy and practices as well the administration of the ordinances. Failure to come to an accurate interpretation of this passage of scripture could be said to result in the varied denominational differences found in Protestantism. This paper will investigate this passage of scripture using a contextual analysis whereby both the literary context and the historical contexts will be examined.
