Out of love, his parents have made choices to not only protect Paul but to keep him shielded from decision-making knowledge of events, and subjects that they didn’t want him to be exposed to. While his parents may have thought their decisions were more positive then negative, they showed their lack of faith in Paul. They were shielding him from adult information and decisions. They were ultimately limiting his ability to grow-up. Mom made the first choice.
Also, he is afraid for his family here and their reputation. After everyone has been questioned, Arthur says this: “It doesn’t matter much now, of course, but was he really a police inspector?” “Well, if he wasn’t, it matters a devil of a lot.” He says this after the Inspector has left and shows that even if the Inspector was a fake and tricking him then it did not happen and everything could go back to normal. This showed that if the Inspector was not real, he felt he did not have to take any responsibility for Eva’s death and Arthur felt relieved. Arthur also says that if it was more than one girl, it makes a difference as well because he may have only sacked one of
“But the Duvitches were marked people.” (3) This prevented them to do what they wished peacefully because where ever they went they would be harassed by the town folk. And that harassment helps to prevent them from feeling free. Moving into a new country is tough, but moving to a place where the community doesn’t accept you is much harder. Even though you are technically free, you can never be free unless you are accepted by the community you move to. This is shown in the short story The Strangers That Came to Town by Ambrose Flack.
In the novel All Quiet on the Western Front the reader can infer that the narrator Paul Baumer as we know him in the novel is very different from Paul Baumer before he experienced war. He had plans to write a play and a love of literature that was lost after experiencing the horror of life in the trenches. It is shown in his apparent aestheticism, inability to fantasize beyond reality, and his lack of faith in the human race. The things Paul experienced truly changed his life. Throughout the novel Paul seems to leave his emotions behind in order to survive.
That night when Kiowa got wasted, I sort of sank down into the sewage with him… Feels like I’m still deep shit.”(Page 150) Bowker is also intelligent and is well supported by his parents, but he did not see any meaning in getting a job or even going to school. He does not have the words to explain what he went through or how he feels and he tries to hide it. Norman really wants his story told, so he sent a letter to Tim O’ Brien and ask Tim to write itfor him. He believes that Tim can express how he feels or get the right words out, but the story did not satisfy Norman and he commits suicide 8 months later in the locker room of a YMCA in his hometown. Norman’s role in this book is to help Tim to go from being a storyteller, or writer, to being a soldier.
He didn’t want to justify his daddy’s blood, he didn’t want to be always having to do something that something else wanted him to do, that he didn’t know what it was and that was always dangerous”(135). Enoch’s blood is “wise,” meaning his fate was pre-determined by his blood. that He seemed out of control in his mind while his "blood" took over and guided him. I thought it meant that there was a connection between how his previous family such as his father turned out and how he would turn out, like his
He experiences loneliness in a society where people are constantly entertained without time given to reflection and personal development, activities often associated with the reading process. The more complicated fine distinctions of the world of books are available to him only when he leaves his reductionist society. Bradbury does not realize just how unhappy he is with his life and the world he lives in until Clarisse talks about her "strange" family, the one that actually converses with each other and enjoys nature. Bradbury show just how much Clarisse’s way of life is unaccepted in Montag’s world with the quote spoken by Clarisse, “White blurs are houses. Brown blurs are cows.
For example “ I said “I didn’t know I was going to get in into trouble, I liked wellington and I went ot say hello to him, but I didn’t know someone had killed him” father said “just try and keep your nose out of other people’s business” I thought for a little and I said” I am going to find out who killed Wellington”” The simple fact that Christopher does not listen to his father is challenging to Ed because Christopher’s fails to understand the upset and anguish he could case the people he might ask as well this is challenge because of Ed’s frustration he fails to explain to Christopher correctly why he should not investigate . Although this is not an essay critiquing Ed`s parenting, much of Christopher’s challenges of growing up attribute to this thus contributing to Christopher’s character. Ed does not always make the greatest choices when it comes to parenting case and point would be when Ed finds out Christopher has learned of the affair and has taken Christopher’s book from him. Ed hid the book in his closet causing Christopher to go looking for it which unleashes Pandora’s Box, the after math of finding his mother’s letters showed Christopher in a new light dealing with emotions he has never had before and not know what to do with them ``I did it for your own good, Christopher. Honestly I did.
You gonna get me in trouble jus’ like George says you will” (91). He thought he was just keeping her quiet, not killing her. It’s not like he had the intention to kill her. His mental disability keeps him from thinking like a normal person. Lennie is not responsible for her death because he did not understand what was
All the reader knew up until that point was that he disappeared and no one ever saw him again. But it turns out that earlier in the novel; there was a body that Jim would not let Huck see. The reader always that Jim thought it was because it was too mangled for Huck to see. This is situational irony because it is a complete different view on what happens after the novel ends. Now, Huck can get his money and never worry about returning to the awful care of Pap.
