A hero in the sea The open boat In the story “the open boat” (Crane 185-187) Billie is one of the guys on the boat that showed a lot of strength and courageous of the boat and the people that’s on it. Other guys on the boat including the captain show carelessness most of the time by sleeping around and being exhausting form sailing. Billie Was the hero that took the correspondence’s place more than enough, even when he knew the correspondence just wanted to sleep. He kept sailing towards the beach. It was a great end for Billie showing his heroic skills, although he didn’t knew about it. A real definition of a hero was made in a difficult situation. Billie is just an average guy was on the boat. He had a moments where he doubted himself couple times. Times were hard when the other guys including the Captain had felt asleep, he still kept himself motivated. The correspondence had some doubtful thoughts about how he would die, would be his way of dying? Billie was the one always take the correspondence’s place to let him sleep a little bit. Persistence was Billie’s key to keep the boat floating. He kept sailing no matter what. He got tired and had to switch to sleep a little bit, but his sleep wasn’t for too long like the other guys. Most of the times the captain’s eyes were closed from how tired he was; meanwhile Billie was still wide awake. The correspondence was always switched with Billie, and Billie wouldn’t mind.
