I) Write an essay (400 words) defining the purpose and positive features of examinations as an assessment method. Assessment is an integral part of teaching and learning. New assessment methods are developed in higher education. Different assessment formats and methods are presented, including examinations. An examination is an assessment intended to measure a person knowledge, skill, aptitude, physical fitness, or classification in many other topics. The main purpose of exams is lectures to check that the student understood the work. The exam measures the knowledge about the subjects the exam covers. Exams are to demonstrate work covered during the course has been understood and retained for the long term. The exams encourage us to find ways of remembering information without having to look it up. With enough, practice and revision, most people can get through exams, but it takes courage to use the knowledge in the real life. Without exams most students would ignore important subjects because they don’t like it. No one would expect for example their doctor to simply forget everything he learns about chemistry and drugs, because he found the maths part of medical training challenging. There are lot of positive things about exams. Examinations compel students to read as much as they can, and as they do so, they absorb knowledge unconsciously. Exams can energise the students, providing motivation to learn things, which otherwise keep putting off. Provide the incentive to make everyone look back over what has been already covered in order to check that really understand it. People are likely to discover aspects they need to know better, and even to learn more than they realised they could.
