Procrastinating homework is never a good idea. Even though you may not want to do it, it is always a better idea to get the homework done and over with. After putting of my Frankenstein paper for quite sometime, I have learned many lessons. I have learned to get my homework done in a timely manner, plan ahead, and be more thorough with my work. After procrastinating a lot of my homework this year, I have learned now, for second semester that I need to step it up a little bit.
It was what I had expected, before I read the book, I thought that the writer will argue how gaming is more effective in learning than the traditional method of reading. The strategies listed on page 91-92 would help a lot because there are crucial information that should help prove us understand what the author is trying to imply. There were a lot of parts in which the author included the beneficiary of reading books, which makes me confused and stayed off topic for a bit. Overall, the author was trying to convince that eventually the society will begin to see gaming as something better than reading books. I think the writer provided the facts of both reading and gaming to make a realistic approach towards the reader.
At this point, I think it depends on what are your reading interests and how reading meets your interpretation skills to be understood or to get you involved on its field. I have always been a thinker, but throughout my coursework, I have sharpened my critical analysis skills and I like to read more books than I did before. First time that I started to read it was in my first grade. I was so excited at the time and I felt like a hero. My first teacher, Luljeta, was a big help to put me in the track.
I believe that while the English language is in decline, it can be repaired. Many of the mistakes that people make when they write are due to over-thinking or not thinking enough, as stated in Simplicity by William Zinsser, “Thinking clearly is a conscious act that the writer must force upon himself.” Using too many words, not enough words, extravagant words, or inappropriate wording are all key flaws of writing (that I admit I’ve done). Still, all can be worked on and fixed. In Politics and the English Language, Orwell explains the causes of the decline of the English language and how the effects are often closely intertwined with the cause. Orwell uses the example, “A man may…drink because he feels himself to be a failure, and then fail all the more completely because he drinks…the same thing…is happening to the English language.” Sometimes, bad habits cause other habits to exist and it turns into a cycle of disorder.
In this essay I’m going to talk about how literature has affected me, and in a small way determined who I am today, and how it has affected my views on certain subjects. Various types of literature have taught me many interesting things about the world, cultures, and most importantly, myself. Also I’ll describe my history as a reader and my plan for reading in the future. Literature has somewhat sculpted me into the person I am today. I believe that children are very easily influenced, and as a child I was exposed to literature almost every night.
Falling under the headings of intuitive and extraverts, I was pick out the line up quick. I learned that when taking notes, its best for me to create concept maps, mind maps, and other visuals. After practicing different techniques, I found that I retain the study information more clearly. I also realized that mapping out my driving routes for work, is better than writing directions. My Self Discovery was learning that I’ve been stuck in the same pattern for a long time, even though that pattern never worked out for me.
Students Needs for Successful Learning Reading Attitude I have received a mixed response from students. They all like to read books of their level and are always curious to find the meanings of new words they come across. Students of grade 6, 7 and 8 like to read chapter books which have some characters to think and write about. Grade 10, 11 and 12 students whether it is a boy or a girl, liked and sometimes forced to read essays and course related material to improve on their essays. The secondary students strongly agreed that to learn new vocabulary a person has to read a lot and for this purpose it is very necessary to become a member of public libraries where they can find variety of books like fiction, non-fiction, historic, drama, classical, sports, cars etc.
I think the most helpful worksheet for this paper was the communication strategy worksheet. It really help me solved all the underlying questions beforehand so it was easier for me to write my first draft. Once I started writing my draft I found it to be very hard to not make a recommendation. I felt that my first draft was very unorganized because I begin putting more emphasis on other issues. If it wasn’t for the peer reviews, I
Anthony Suryajaya English 101 December 8, 2013 Reflective Commentary Some people take classes just to make sure that they get good grades in every single subject they take and just to fulfill the requirement of the associate degrees they might choose at North Seattle Community College. Well, I do have the same goal as them, yet I feel that I need to learn a lot of things from each subject that I take and I feel that experiences are the most important thing that needs to be considered. In this quarter, I take English 101 as one of my subjects this quarter. I think that I was a bad writer before I take this English 101 class because I really feel that I do not know how to write correctly. I do not know how to write a good introduction and conclusion, and I have a bad grammar structure.
I become a very defensive listener, treating everything they say as a personal attack because most of my attention is elsewhere and I am daydreaming and missing all the signs of verbal and nonverbal communications. Another problem that I have when listening is I am a very defensive listener. When speaking to people, I turn their simple constructive criticisms into a personal attack on my total character ( again not giving my full attention I miss how they use nonverbal communication). I think it is because I am very concerned with the way they thinks of me, and making them happy. The problem with my pseudo thinking is that when it comes time for me to have a response I have no clue what was said during the conversation because the only thing I focused on was the topic of discussion.
