Every College Student Should Be Required To Be Inv

President John Adams said "There are two kinds of education. One teaches you how to earn a living. The other teaches you how to live." The volunteering and giving community service have to do with education and academic achievement. This makes students to grow up healthy, caring and responsible. But some educators and students argue that students should not be “forced” to do community service. We will discuss how the students and community could be benefited from students’ engagement. First of all, the debates continue over whether students should be “forced” to volunteer. Some students think the community service should be for students who want to help and do some good for the community. It should not be a part of the curriculum of colleges. In fact, the mandated community involvement is that such policies engage the students who would not have volunteered on their own mindset or someone who don't even do any school sports or clubs. This appears to be the case in Ontario, where a 2007 study of students found that, on average, they keep the positive attitudes toward the compulsory community service requirement, and that the program had been successful in helping students who otherwise would not have volunteered. Secondly, some students argue that they are so busy for learning; sports and music training that they don’t have time to involve the community service. In my opinion, the community service once a month does not affect the student’s learning. On the contrary, volunteering will bring much broader than A’s and B’s, and empower their confidence for academic success. Conrad and Hedin’s review of community involvement research in K-12 educational settings provides evidence that such educational programming is associated with students’ civic-related learning outcomes – notably, self-esteem, appreciation for diversity, responsibility toward the community and so on.
