Evaluate Two Psychological Approaches to Health and Social Care Provision

I am going to choose the humanistic and psycho-dynamic perspective to evaluate in relation to health and social care provision. In a health and social care environment there can be no prejudice or judgement shown at any time. This especially goes for psychologist as when people go to see a psychologist they are generally looking for help and support and a psychologist will not be able to provide any level or care with a judgemental head on their shoulders. If a boy from a rich background is trying to become world’s best artist by teaching himself, and is becoming blue because he cannot do it, he may go to see a psychologist due to this sadness so that he can get advice and begin to feel better about himself. The humanistic perspective will explain that the boy is just trying to fore fill his self- actualisation. It will explain that he has every other step of Maslow’s hierarchy of needs and is trying to achieve the last one. If the boy has been told that he will no doubt become a great painter one day and that he has great artistic hands, he may be adopting these compliments making her try that much harder at being the best. The psychologist must try to understand why he wants to teach himself when he can so easily get an art teaching being that he comes from a wealthy background and can have anything he desires. They must try to uncover why he is focusing his self- actualisation on becoming an Artist. Is it something that he has adopted from being a little boy? Is it something he has always wanted to do? The boy may show anxiety and stress when talking about his hope to be the best Artist. The psychologist must use empathy to find out why the thought of doing something he says she really wants to do is causes him to have anxiety and to be stressed. The humanistic approach looks at the human experience from the individuals view point. The boy may have been
