I got up early as usual, had a quick shower and woke up Linda my grandchild so that she wouldn’t be late for the school bus. My wife had prepared eggs and bacon for today; this was basically our daily routine. We all sat around the table and said grace. My sons had to hurry up because they didn’t want to be late for work; they work in a factory for an old white man who isn’t pleased when they’re late. I got up and held Linda’s hand, grabbed her backpack and we were heading to the bus station. We passed by the “white’s only” school next to where we lived; Linda would always beg me to take her to that school; she always thought that the whites were better than her and she always wished that she was white and not black. That thought of my grandchild thinking that the whites are better than her angers me. She needs to understand that we are all equal but apparently even the whites don’t think that. They always think that they can always treat us slaves even when were not anymore. I was a former slave, and ever since the 13th Amendment passed the whites have been treated us the same; nothing ever changed. Sometimes I would ask myself why are we even freedmen when they are still treating as this way. I can’t even tolerate how Abraham Lincoln and Andrew Johnson are pardoning…show more content…
I never imagined we would have a Democrat leader. Ever since all this happened the Radical Republicans took control of the Reconstruction. I’m really pleased in the Radical Republican’s effort in helping us. The even divided the South into five districts.
