Dictionary.com defines nationalism as "the policy or doctrine of asserting the interests of one's own nation, viewed as separate from the interests of other nations or the common interests of all nations. Nationalism could also be defined as doing whatever one's nation commanded to do for the benefit of the nation. On the other hand ethnic nationalism is a form of nationalism where in the "nation" is defined in terms of ethnicity. Whatever specific ethnicity is involved, ethnic nationalism always includes some element of descent from previous generations and the implied claim of ethnic essentialism, i.e. the understanding of ethnicity as an essence that remains unchanged over time. There are several issues related to ethnic nationalism in Cyprus can be described as political events, historical background and religious and civic identity. One of the important issue is that political events. In the Northern society the policy of Turkey is to ”replace” Turkish Cypriots settlers with Turkish migrant from the motherland or to show bad impression the demographic balance of the Cyprus population by passing TRNC nationality to large number of emigres. The UN (Annan Plan) offer for resolution includes obvious provisions over the number of migrant who would be assumed nationality. This has proven to be a particularly scarred point for the Greek-Cypriot, who finally did not accept the plan.
