Ethics Awareness Inventory Paper Jillian Berger University of Phoenix Lena Klumper, PhD Psy/490 Ethics Awareness Inventory Paper An individual’s personal ethics will be learned and developed over their lifespan. When working with people and a psychological profession, professionals will continuously put to use ethical judgment and moral decision-making and be persistent in developing and evolving an individual’s understanding of morality. This development does not stop once a goal is acquired; it is an ongoing process that is deeply implemented as the individual grows. Personal ethics are an important part of any professional discipline, and one must conduct themselves ethically to be described as ethical. Finding the Results The Ethics Awareness Inventory results were quite fascinating. The inventory does seem a bit like fortune cookie conjuring. It would be interesting to find out whether this measure has been empirically validated. That most definitely speaks to my ethical perspective and ethical style. It is difficult to understand how someone could measure ethical conduct except through measurable results. If the outcome cannot be measured, then there is no way to be objectively confident that the underlying ethical construct even exists or is of any consequences to real people. What is the Ethics Awareness Inventory? The inventory begins with a quick introduction about the process, applicability, and purpose of the measure (Ethics Awareness Inventory, 2006). It is made clear that ethical decision making is comprised of three separate tasks: awareness, articulation, and application. I would argue that any exclusion of the third task would negate any mention of the first two. The point of the inventory is to identify the CORE belief structure that underlies our ethical choices.
