Ethics Concepts In The Community Stephen McElvine ETH/316 October 10, 2012 LaTaunya Howard Ethics Concepts In The Community This paper will consist of ethical concepts that will express what I think my responsibilities to my community involves. These ethical concepts are the virtue, value and moral concepts. The responsibilities I have in my community is to pay my Home Owners Association payment on time; therefore, the amenities (pool, trash pickup, ect.) can be enjoyed and operate smoothly. It is also my responsibility to maintain the upkeep of my property; by doing so, it will ensure that the property value throughout the community does not decline. This will be an example of the virtue concept which regards one’s character as well as one’s motivations and intentions (Trevino & Nelson, 2007). This concept has to do with an individual’s high moral standards. As discussed in class, these concepts can easily intertwine into each other; which leads me to the next concept that closely relates to the virtue concept and that is the value concept. According to Boylan (2009), “It is inconsistent on one hand to accept the assistance of the community via schools, police, fire, roads….and on the other hand to deny to a reciprocal duty to give back to the community”. I believe each individual has some responsibility but not the same responsibilities, simply because their values may not be the same. Some ways to give back to your community are through donation to the supporting elements; such as, the police and fire departments in your community. Another way is to volunteer your time and services to the local schools or in some communities you can even become a volunteer firemen. In conclusion; as with anything you do, there is that ten percent who doesn’t want to do their part in the community but wants to reap all of the benefits. Having this kind of
