Ethical Dilemma One of your fellow correctional officers accepts candy and snacks from one of the inmates. She doesn't ask for the snacks nor does she do any favors for the inmate. Should you report this activity? Would you report it? Using the ACA Code of Ethics, determine the ethical issues if any involved in this behavior. If I was her coworker I would report her activities with the inmates. I believe her actions now could lead to other interactions, such as a gate way to more heinous decisions. For example, the inmate has the opportunity to blackmail her into doing illegal activities in the future. However, her actions breaks the ‘ACA Code of Ethics’. According to American Correctional Association, “Members shall refrain from accepting any gifts, services, or favors that is or appears to be improper or implies an obligation inconsistent with the free and objective exercise of professional duties,” expressing that no one should accept gifts from inmates. By my coworker accepting candy her credibility became murky water. If I do not report her imprudent actions I will be as ethical irresponsible as her which will not fly. On the other hand, other coworkers would not report her so, they could have power over her by blackmailing but this action is against American Correctional Association Code of Ethics, as well. “Members shall treat every professional situation with concern for the welfare of the individuals involved and with no intent to personal gain,” suggesting they are not treating coworkers with respect but to only achieve ‘personal gain’. This action breaks the creed which every correction officer protects which is un-honorable. I believe the best decision is to report her this action will protect myself as well as her in future altercations legally or dealing with
