Kristina's parents had separated when she was quite young and her father moved far away after the divorce. Her mother, because of her hate towards her ex-husband, rarely gives him the chance to see his daughter. However, Kristina goes to visit him for three weeks and soon realizes her and her father barely know each other anymore. This greatly troubles her, and she finds it difficult to be around him. She is also upset with her mother, who is dating a new man and as a result seems to be a completely new person all together.
His two older brothers, Tristan and Alfred, also enlist in an effort to protect their younger brother in his naïveté. Samuel is killed serving in the war and Tristan holds him in his final moments. He never forgives himself for the death of Samuel and begins to go mad. The Tristan character experiences the constant internal conflict of being unsettled. He is lost and fights within himself regarding whether to take care of his responsibilities at the ranch and marry Suzanna, whom he is now in love with, or get lost in the world.
The little brother is under stress because he cannot see his famous brother or that Munez knows of his poor family. The little brother’s mom forbids him from doing a lot of things to a point where the brother does outrageous and self-inflicting things in order to see his brother. Munez’s girlfriend, Roz Harmison, is under the stress that she is losing her boyfriend. She sees all the potential girlfriends he can have and that they do not live together. The pressure of her nursing exams forces her to stay in New Castle while her boyfriend is in Madrid.
The following year, his family suffered from losing their fortune in the financial panic of 1907. Due to this, Adam’s mother spent a lot of time stressing her husband over his inability to get back their fortune, which ended up leaving an emotional imprint on Ansel himself. But, his father was very supporting and loving towards him. His traits, such as his shyness and intelligence, as well as his earthquake affected nose caused him to have a lot of problems when it came to fitting in at school. He was unsuccessful in all the schools he had attended, which resulted in him being home-schooled by his father and aunt.
We see this in several different ways. Holden seeks out both a mother figure, and a father figure. Holden’s mother becomes sickly and nervous with the death of her child, “She hasn’t felt too healthy since my brother Allie died. She’s very nervous. That’s another reason why I hated like hell for her to know I got the ax again.”(107), and this causes Holden to worry about her, and nurture her more than she nurtures him.
“He was nearing fifty and no longer as healthy as he had been.” (pg. 127) Rukmani is fearing of her husbands health in this quote. Without him, she will not have any money to feed her children or for anywhere to live. The challenges Rukmani faced through the novel represent fear in various amount of ways. “Who’s Afraid of Virginia Woolf” Essay In the play of “ Who’s Afraid of Virginia Woolf” by Edward Alber, he depicts Martha and George as a married couple that live together very unhappily because of all of their frustrations and anger towards one another. George and Martha are both incapable of having children, so they create an imaginary son who they say will be turning 21 soon. The reader can infer from this that their intentions for creating an imaginary son is to rid all the pain and unhappiness of not ever having been parents. The couple is unhappy with each other for a few reasons. George is very frustrated with his job; He wants to move forward, and he has attempted with writing novels of his own but Martha has not supported him and done nothing but hinder George.
Parents play a big part in a child’s life, they are our ‘guiding light’ as to who we are as a person. Kate Keller from ‘All my Sons’ is in a constant state of denial about the death of her son Larry, still believing that there’s hope that he is alive. Due to this hope she is seen arguing with the people around her about her son’s life causing an internal turmoil; not allowing her to move on with her life and progress and cement her identity. Her current state of mind is not beneficial for those around her, causing them to also question whether Larry is still alive and where fault lies. A similar situation occurs in the Australian Classic “Muriels Wedding” when Bill Heslop, father of Muriel Heslop, is found to be a deceiving human being, hiding an affair from the wife and holding onto past losses.
Ethan Frome Throughout the novel Ethan Frome, by Edith Wharton, the main character Ethan goes through hard time in his life, internal and external which eventually lead to his downfall. Ethan is very much a tragic hero because of various tragic flaws in him. Ethan From has very poor judgment and lacks the ability to analyze situations. This flaw leads to problems, including marrying Zeena, his wife, as well as having a relationship with Mattie. Another flaw which Ethan has is his lack in ability to communicate with the people around him.

The novel “Across a hundred mountains” by Reyna Grande consists of tragedy surrounding the Garcia family. Juana Garcia along with her mother must endure the absence of her Father that left to the United States to support them. As time passes by, the father fails to return leaving Juana and her mother vulnerable to poverty, abuse, and loss of faith. Juana impatient for the return of her father ventures to the Tijuana, and then the United States in search for her father, evidently taking dual identities of a fallen friend that at the cost of her life, allowed Juana to push forward the search for her father.
