Organizations play a huge role in promoting ethics at the workplace. Organizations can implement safeguards like ethical policies, and employee ethics training. In this essay I will be discussing my assessment of a short film that expresses a type of issue organizations face today with their employees in regards to ethical principles. This film is called Hot Seat made by the Responsibility Project, produced in August 2008.
Starbuck’s Ethics and Compliance Ethics and compliance is a vital part of Starbucks success. Their organizational mission includes inspiring and nurturing the human spirit by indulging one person, cup, and neighbor at a time (Our Starbucks Mission Statement, n.d.). The leaders of this publicly traded companies are responsible for ethical compliance as it relates to the Security and Exchange Commission (SEC), and they are also responsible for filing annual financial reports. These financial reports are required by the SEC to help investors make decisions about their investors. The board of directors is responsible for overseeing and exercising corporate powers and certifying the company’s business affairs while managing the goals and objectives for long-term interests of the shareholders.
They strive to keep their employees happy while also meeting the needs of their customers. Lafleur also knows that the first person a customer encounters in a sales person. The sales people must maintain a professional front while serving a customer and the customer should be satisfied with not only the product, but with the service, they receive. The goal of the company is to ultimately make a profit but not at the expense of quality products and services. The company will also take care of the environment; most of the goods are organic in nature.
Zappos’ leadership would agree with this statement since they believe their company culture is the differentiator. Hsieh states, “Our belief is that if you get the culture right, then most of the other stuff—like great customer service or building a long-lasting, enduring brand—will happen naturally.” Aside from how this may have impacted the company from a financial performance perspective, this was the driving factor behind the attention Zappos was receiving from consumers, the press, and academics. People were interested in taking tours of the company’s headquarters and understanding more about Zappos. This is partly because of Zappos’ unprecedented focus on its’ unique company culture. Since people talked about it and gave that aspect of the company attention, it clearly impacted Zappos in a positive way.
As said in the textbook job satisfaction has a direct affect on customer satisfaction and the profitability of a company so if Foreman’s course can do what is pledges then it could have a positive effect on Albertsons profitability. 2. Positive worker attitudes have a large effect on the success of a business. Workers who come to work happy will work harder and do more to improve the company because they feel connected and pleased with their job. If a worker is not happy with their job they will not feel the need, or want to put in the extra effort to try and improve the areas of the company that need improvement.
