EST1 Task 1 James Duffield Western Governors University I will be evaluating the following information given from your company on its attitude toward social responsibility and giving your company recommendations as I see fit: Your company is a small local grocery store chain located in a major metropolitan area. You have closed a couple stores in high crime areas of the city. You also report the closed stores were losing money. After years or requests your company is stocking a small amount of health and organic products in all of your stores all of which are high margin items. Also, your company was asked for donations of day old products by the food bank.
They have shown this by closing a few stores in a higher-crime-rate area because they were losing money, by only offering a very limited amount of health-conscience and organic products because they are high margin items and by declining to donate to the local food bank because of worries over lost revenues. Company Q is not displaying an obligation to its stakeholders; particularly the customers, community and employees by not maximizing a positive impact through ethical and philanthropic actions. In order for Company Q is improve their reputation they need to take on a socioeconomic approach to social responsibility. This approach focuses not only on profits but on the benefit of the business to society. Company Q can improve their social responsibility in three areas; customer satisfaction, community outreach and employee trust.
However, a determination should be made regarding the viability of these items in all stores. If sales are low in certain areas, this could lead to loss of profit due to overages. Company Q has also declined a request by local food bank to donate day old products because they fear theft by employees. Company Q could take a few simple steps which would support their need to improve profit, engage their employees in a shared corporate vision, and build a supportive relationship with the community. Recommendation 1 Company Q should establish an ethics program.
This marketing initiative will track the customer’s buying habits and allow Kudler to target to specific customers. Looking at the current information technologies databases, Kudler foods has a system that tracks internal sales data but wants to enhance the system so they can track the demographic information and buying trends of each customer (Kudler Virtual Organization, 2010). Strategies and Tactics The company, Kudler Fine Foods, must insure that all marketing initiatives align with the company’s mission statement. When selling gourmet foods, it is more important to have the highest quality foods and customer service than it is to have low prices. Kudler must stay focused on this aspect at all times when developing new tactic and strategies as not to succumb to the pressures of the discount shopper.
Should the federal government maintain the social safety net for all of its citizens? One in seven Americans receive food stamps, a number that's up sharply since the financial crisis. Most experts agree unemployment and underemployment have contributed to the number of people in need of food assistance. The government should stop expanding food stamps because of many reasons which are people are so dependent on the government, there is a lot of fraud that goes on while receiving food stamps, and that the government is spending way too much money on the poor while other things can help them get back on their feet. Some people may argue that access to food stamps is essential for needy families.
BMA1 – Task 304.1.3-04 Steve Perryman Western Governors University Social responsibility is a concept that many businesses take seriously because it has a direct effect on the consumer’s perception of the company and the bottom line profitability of the company. Social responsibility is the company’s obligation to maximize its positive impact and to minimize any negative impact in a community and its consumers. There are four aspects of social responsibility: Economic, Legal, Ethical, and Philanthropic. There are many examples of companies like Whole Foods, Coca-Cola, and PNC Financial Group who go above and beyond these four aspects of social responsibility. Company Q in the scenario provided has a very poor attitude towards social responsibility because though they provide some basic aspects like Economic and Legal they fall short in Ethical and Philanthropic aspects.
347540Wallace EST 1 Task 310.2.1-05See how we can help Because Company Q is a small, local grocery store in a major metropolitan area it can at times be very over whelming. Big chain stores are putting family owned stores out of business on a constant basis. This reason, along with social responsibility taking hold of companies, brought on by consumers demanding that companies adjust their thinking from a profit-seeking standpoint to being socially and ethically understanding to all consumers in their business ventures. Recently, due to decrease, in sales Company Q had to close two stores in high crime rate areas. Those closures where due to the result of months of losses in profits from those two stores.
High quality of Tesco’s products and services is important so they can maintain their customer loyalty. Loyal customers will not only repeat purchases, but will also recommend their other products. As a result of this, it could bring more customers to shop at their store and maintain their reputation. Not only is maintaining quality in a business, such as Tesco, important to sustain their customer loyalty and, but quality can also reduce costs for the business. For example, during Tesco’s horse meat scandal, Tesco had to spend a lot of money to replace products and stop the problem.
From my point of view, organisations can be socially responsible towards all its stakeholders at the same time. Being socially responsible improves the image of the organisation and increases the loyalty of employees and its costumers. I think that managers should not focus just on the economic interests of the company. Of course the economic interest is important for the survival of the company but there are also moral principles that have to be followed in order to respect the people that work for the organisation and their costumers. The social responsibility affects all its surrounding environments.
Organic foods are not proven to be better than other foods. Many people buy organic foods because in today’s society it is widely accepted as the new health fad. Similar to the Atkins diet and other fads of the past, buying organic is socially an upgrade to buying normal foods. In actuality it’s more a psychosocial affair. In an interview on NPR, Inskeep discusses some of the intricacies of organic food with NPR’s Aubrey Allison, and she responded with this excerpt “…there are a whole bunch of emotional values that are tied up with eating organic food.
