I have always been fascinated with text messaging, but I have found some people have become addicted to texting. Most teenagers use text messaging as their main source of communication. I believe that text messaging has a huge affect on teen literacy. My goal of this research is to find out how text messaging affects our literacy and the rest of our lives. To achieve the goal of my paper, I have separated my paper into four sections. Each section has subsections. In the first section, I will provide news reports about text messaging. In the second section, I will discuss the text messaging history, how it started, and much more. The third section will contain why text messaging is most used out of all the forms of communication. Those with cell phones have access to text messaging, one of the cell phones most favorable features. A recent survey was administered to students and teachers and was found that 70% of them believed that texting has a harmful effect on student language and literacy. Another survey was done on literacy review and the results showed that texting is actually beneficial. (Nenagh Kemp,) a senior lecturer in psychology at the University of Tasmania, studied the effect of text messaging on grammar. She tested 243 UK primary schools, high schools, and university students to see if grammatical violations made when text messaging impacted their ability to know and use correct grammar in other circumstances. Her 2014 research found evidence that texting was a reason of grammatical decline. Dr Kemp suggested, people who are confident with spelling and grammar may be more expert in interpreting new ways of writing, from the shortening of words to emoji. "I think it's just another example of any kind of anxiety about technology, but this is very clearly a different way of writing," she said. "It is people adapting." TEXT MESSAGING
