Specific Population and the Advocate Role Gail Coash BSHS/442 September 12, 2011 Melinda Barker Specific Population and the Advocate Role There are many different populations within the world that need advocates. Persons with disabilities are one of the many types of populations specifically children with disabilities. In the Human Services field they are equipped with people can help them get what they need and the services they may require. In this paper we will discuss the problems that may arise and how as an advocate I would help this population. I have seen some people who don’t give all the information and with clients who have disabilities it is preferred that the advocate and client know exactly what will be going on within their treatment sessions. I know as an advocate for children I would make it a point to stand up for my client if it was in the best interest of my client. Some people do not understand why persons with disabilities need an advocate when they are going to find treatment for themselves. Short and long-term medical care is also another area in which advocates are used. When it comes to short term medical care the advocate is there to help explain what is going to happen and why they maybe in the care facility. Short term care is temporary care for someone who may have been injured in some sort of accident. As the advocate I would also take into consideration how the client may feel about being in short term care. If they have questions I would go and ask the staff or doctor their questions and express their uncertainties about the care they are
