Specific Population and the Advocate Role Paper and Presentation BSHS 442 Specific Population and the Advocate Role Paper and Presentation Individuals with special needs or lack the education required to read or write may need a person to assist or advocate for them. The developmentally disabled adult consists of individuals who are blind and suffer from autism to name a few.
Prisoners with Special Needs CJA 234 There are many inmates in prisons that have different special needs. Some of these needs are based on whether the inmates are male or female. Males have some special needs to take care of their selves that females do not and vice versa. Then there are those who suffer from a mental illness. Their special needs are much different than those who have basic needs.
To work effectively we have to communicate information, this will include information such as how the child is feeling, what kind of day they have had, what their play interests are or information regarding their health, referring them to outside agencies like speech therapists. The sharing and gaining of information is a feature of our work with children, parents colleagues and others. When a child is new to a setting, the ‘settling in’ period is particularly hard and distressing for them. Practitioners need to think of ways to build a relationship with them, for this communication is key. It is also a very hard time for parents leaving their children with us, we must also use our excellent communication skills in to build relationships with them so they have confidence and trust in us.
Children service workers must be directive and take much caution not to threaten, devalue or apologize. Children’s Service Workers have to know certain techniques to effectively work with clients that are threatening and sometimes hostile. It is very important to seek and gain knowledge of various ways to reduce resistance to treatment and to prevent the potential for violence in the casework interview. When working in child welfare the majority of clients a social worker deals with are involuntary and resistant. Social workers must try to think like the client and understand general thoughts behind the client’s resistive behavior.
How Human Service Professionals Help With Peoples Needs Maria Krem There are many populations served in the human services profession with a variety of needs. For instance, the professionals can work with foster care children, families, adolescents, the aging, the mentally ill, the homeless, the medically ill, and substance abusers. All of these groups share the same needs, which is support, compassion and guidance from a trained professional. Human service agencies come into the picture when people find themselves confronting barriers to getting their needs met and their own resources for overcoming these obstacles are insufficient. Some of these barriers include: Lack of family or supportive family, lack of friends, mental illnesses, poverty, Social exclusion, trauma, Lack of education, Lack of employment skills, unemployment, and physical and or intellectual disabilities.
1.1 Review the range of groups and individuals whose communication needs must be addressed in own job role. Within my role as a Registered Children’s Home Manager I have the need to communicate with many different people. These include the young people we are working with, parents, teachers, social workers, Ofsted inspectors, other colleagues, professionals, and my staff team. Each of these people have different needs which means that how I communicate with them may need to be different. It is also very important to be aware of the immediate needs of the person you are communicating with for example if they are experiencing some form of personal crisis, they are upset, unwell or excited to ensure they feel valued and supported.

It is essential that the term 'Highly Resistant' is defined at this stage as it will give the reader an understanding of its true meaning to professionals involved with working with this group. The term 'Highly Resistant' is defined by C4EO as: 'Families who do not engage or cooperate with services to protect children at risk of harm, including those who may appear outwardly compliant and families who do not demonstrate positive change despite intervention and support from child protection services'. This term offered is crucial when dealing with a family who may show signs of being a 'resistant' family as this can often lead to more severe and potential problems regarding the safety of the child(ren) as the social worker involved may feel that the lack of engagement and hostility shown towards them is effecting their practice. Example, they may fail to carry out follow up assessments which could leave the child at risk of serious harm. (C4EO, 2010).
Also, if you’re going to receive a treatment or going to have an operation, the staff should ask you to fill a form and ask for your permission and ask if you agree with the type of treatment that they will provide you with. Without your own permission they wouldn’t be able to provide you with anything. Another thing which is very important is providing interpreters for those who can’t speak English. An interpreter would help you to understand what the doctor is telling you. The interpreter would also give you detailed information about your problem.
It was a deciding factor in some of the cases that the services mad to become more in line with occupation therapy or physical therapy based on the patients conditions and ability. In some cases the patient may not be able to do any lower extremity exercises therefore the patient needed to be seen by physical therapy primarily first.
