Essay On Solar Energy

As we know that energy crisis is an important issue in present world. Conventional energy resources are limited and also a major contributor to environmental pollution. Here, the renewable energy derived from natural processes comes to our rescue as they are constantly replenished. Solar energy is the earth's most abundant energy source. With the help of newer technologies such as solar cell we are able to trap the enormous energy which is relished from the sun in to the space everyday and thereby convert into usable electrical energy. Solar panel is composed of three thin, flat layers made up of silicone, phosphorous and boron. Sun emits the stream of energy particles called photons in the form of sun rays, as these strike the top layer of the solar cell they are absorbed and thereby initiate a current i.e., electricity. This can be obtained either directly using photovoltaic’s (PV), or indirectly using concentrated solar power (CSP). Lenses or mirrors are used in CSP to focus a large area of sunlight into a narrow beam. The concentrated heat thus obtained is further used as a heat source for a conventional power plant. Sun tracking mechanism is an automated solar panel which is capable of rotating over 160o east to west which follows the sun to increase the power output of…show more content…
Hence, the need for solar tracking system increased for sustain power generation. The solar tracking system involves positioning of solar PV panels, reflectors, lenses, etc. toward the sun. At any given fixed point or location the visible portion of the sun is only 180o during a 1/2 day period though the sun travels 360o a day from east to west. Exposure is maximum during spring and summer; less in winter and during monsoon. Hence, the sun trackers are used to maximize the amount of sun light by following it throughout as it moves across the
