“Bullying is a big problem that effects millions of students, and it has everyone worried, not just the kids on it’s receiving end” (Lyness 1). Bullying does not just affect kids, but the parents too. It affects the parents because a lot of their children begin to be afraid attending school. In the novel Speak by Laurie Halse Anderson, Melinda was affected by being bullied lead her to think about suicide, scared of coming to school, and victims like Melinda begin to not care about school and fail. It’s sad to see such tragedy happen in places such as schools a place where us as students is suppose to feel safe as in a home away from home and is now a place of fear. Nowadays students go to school not knowing if their going to make it home safe. This just goes to shoes the effect that a gun has on certain individuals, for some it can change their lives drastically in a second. Some learn from their mistakes and some don’t and the ones who don’t learn anything are the ones who have a problem mentally. This horrifying shooting took the lives of ten students including the gunman life.
Columbine Shooting On April 20, 1999, Dylan Klebold and Eric Harris attacked Columbine High school in Colorado. They arrived at school with an arsenal of knives, guns, and bombs, as well as two propane bombs that they had already placed in the cafeteria rigged with timers. According to Jennifer Rosenberg, “When the day was done, twelve students, one teacher, and the two murderers were dead; plus 21 more were injured (Columbine Massacre).” They had planned on two propane bombs going off in the cafeteria killings hundreds more students, but this was not the case. The bombs were rigged up incorrectly, and did not explode at 11:17 as planned. At 11:20 they decided something had gone wrong.
He was quoted as saying, "they ALL mocked and slaughtered my self esteem it got so bad I had to turn to drugs." Only days after Thanksgiving, Carneal walked into school with his arsenal of weapons and opened fire killing two students (Newman 26-27). Another example from the book is that of Andrew Williams of Santee, CA. Similar to Carneal, Williams was harassed and teased because of his scrawny appearance. He seemed to take this in stride though, however, on the inside he was being destroyed.
(2013) said that, "We cannot continue to dismiss bullying as a harmless, almost inevitable, part of growing up." "We need to change this mindset and acknowledge this as a serious problem for both the individual and the country as a whole; the effects are long-lasting and significant." According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention 20 percent of U.S. students in grades 9 through 12 were bullied at some point in 2011. Bullying should be a crime, there are kids out there that are killing themselves because of what other kids are saying about that person. It's just horrible.

Eric Harris was eighteen at the time, while Dylan Klebold was seventeen.
When that didn’t work and it became clear that they were not going to disperse, at around 12:24 pm 77 National Guard members fired 67 rounds from M1 Garand rifles into the croud killing 4 and wounding 9 others, thus violently ending the protests. What’s even worse is that two of the students killed had not even been involved in the protest they were just walking to class and had gotten caught in the crossfire. This had a major impact on other campuses and nation wide. It caused an estimated 450 other campuses to stop protesting worldwide and it also got world wide press, their was even a song written about it. it was a tragic event that happened to people who only stand up against what they believed was wrong and tried to make a
The after effects of this attack are still remembered by many! Family’s morn over the deaths of their family members every year on this day and it is totally unfair. In conclusion to the attack President Bush sent our military to Afghanistan to find and capture Bin Laden. In 2003 Bush then sent the military to Iraq and many people were upset. People were so upset because they were afraid that sending troops to Iraq would take the focus off of Afghanistan and the mission to find Bin Laden.
Drug cartels have taken over “pueblos” city’s even states, causing fear in the residents of such places. For the most part people are forced to leave their houses or take members of these cartels in to their home; these people also recruit young kids and teens into joining forces with them offering those loads of money and power. This causes fear in the parents of the families with the lowest income they know that the cartels are hunting for kids that need the money, that wish to help their parents, or those who are just looking for the easy way out. Not only do these people look to add members to their own cartels, they wish to minimize the sizes of contrary cartels, and for that they started a war between themselves. This war has been going on for years but was silent an remain unknown to the rest of the world till around 2008 when all hell went loose, taking the life of many innocent, cartels wouldn’t care whether they were in front of a school or a church they would attack each other anywhere in the effort to getting rid of one another.
