Essay On Renewable Energy

There are many natural resources that humans have used for centuries, and some only for several decades; regardless; nature provides sources of energy and electricity that we need to function and survive. Natural sources of energy are commonly divided into non-renewable, and renewable energy sources. We should use renewable energy sources to produce electricity rather than non-renewable resources because we cannot run out of them, they produce little to no pollution, and they are safer to extract and use than non-renewable resources. Initially, the most obvious reason that renewable resources should be used rather than non-renewable resources is that it is impossible to run out of renewable resources. A statement from Zambia Goes Green reads,…show more content…
Fossil fuels are notorious for producing large amounts of carbon dioxide and other gases that are harmful to humans and the environment. This harmful effect constitutes a need for renewable sources of energy. Sources of renewable energy, such as wind energy have a “Low life cycle carbon footprint, and break even in eight months” (1) Often, the only carbon dioxide produced by renewable energy is that required in the making of the materials. A renewable resource quickly compensates for the carbon produced in production by producing electricity that other polluting sources would have produced. (2) Renewable energy is simply better for the environment then non-renewable energy, according to the Union of concerned scientists, the statistics show that “The comparison becomes clear when you look at the numbers. Burning natural gas for electricity releases between 0.6 and 2 pounds of carbon dioxide equivalent per kilowatt-hour (CO2E/kWh); coal emits between 1.4 and 3.6 pounds of CO2E/kWh. Wind, on the other hand, is responsible for only 0.02 to 0.04 pounds of CO2E/kWh on a life-cycle basis; solar 0.07 to 0.2; geothermal 0.1 to 0.2; and hydroelectric between 0.1 and 0.5.” (8) The environmental benefits of renewable energy sources against non-renewable energy sources cannot be ignored, and it is clear that renewable energy sources should be
