The idea of relating her vagina to a gun also gives the vagina a more powerful connotation and it gives a good base to show the difference and inequality between the two issues. The image of a gun in our society makes people think of power. This is why using the metaphor of a vagina being a gun sets a very powerful tone for the whole poem. Toward the end of her poem, she even says that her vagina is even more powerful than a gun, "But my vagina is not a gun, it is a mightier thing, with a voice that rings true making lawmakers' ears ring" (25-28). What she is saying in those lines is that reproductive rights are a bigger issue than gun rights, but lawmakers are afraid to see it that way and are scared to tackle the issue.

Should Police be armed? On Tuesday 18th September 2012, two female police constables, Fiona Bone aged thirty two, and Nicola Hughes, aged twenty three, were shot in cold blood, responding to a bogus burglary call. This murder of two unarmed police officers on duty has started a debate about whether all police officers should be armed in the line of duty. According to government figures, there were 6,868 officers authorised to carry firearms in England and Wales in 2009. This was out of 143,770 police officers in England and Wales, which means less than 5% of officers are allowed to carry a firearm.

Approximately 5,000 people each year under the age of 21 die as a result to underage drinking. 1,900 of these deaths occur from motor vehicle accidents. 1,600 occur as a result of a homicide. 300 deaths occur from suicide.

According to the article Gun Violence In America: The 13 Key Questions (With 13 Concise Answers), “there are 30,000 deaths per year from gun violence; many of those deaths could’ve been prevented.” (Jonathon Stray). “Homicide is the second leading cause of death for people 15-24 years old and innocent kids are losing their lives because of gun violence.”(Stray). Law enforcements are supposed to ensure the safety of the citizens but with so many guns on the streets it is impossible to keep guns from getting into the wrong hands. However, there are many strategies that can be used to prevent gun violence like: passing gun laws and enforcing them, spreading information about gun violence, and performing thorough background checks.
