During a time when the news is laden with reports of naughty children, schools must endeavor to employ educators willing to go above and beyond the call of simply teaching students within a classroom. Our schools are full of good teachers who go to work, teach what is in a textbook and leave at the end of the day. An effective teacher, however, understands the importance of their job and discovers ways to educate effectively. All teachers are kind, caring and understanding, but the difference is, effective teachers are passionate about their jobs and develop a number of strategies to ensure their students, like them, develop a love for learning. To be effective, teachers must create positive environments, motivate students, develop well planned lessons, communicate effectively and regularly reflect upon themselves.
It also allows them to increase the higher order of thinking within the lesson and bring it up to a level of understanding to where each child is challenged based on their own method of learning. Although the first competency of rigorous learning and planning the lessons are encouraged, another competency of this component is professional development. Professional development helps teachers with every aspect of their work environment. We incorporate professional development in our organization by attending all of our staff meetings, monthly grade level meetings, and in-district workshops. The professional development meetings inform the teachers of how to incorporate rigorous learning into their lessons and also explains what the district expects to see from the staff.

There are some techniques and strategies that teachers can also use to support children educationally. First teachers must recognize that they can make a difference in student’ lives by finding out what their strengths and interests are, focus on them, and create opportunities for success. Teachers must also be concrete as possible by demonstrating what they mean rather than giving directions verbally and tasks that are longer in steps should be broken down into smaller steps and provide assistance when necessary.
