Luna Williams English 100 02/10/2014 Just Whom is This Divorce “Good” For? Divorce is a huge topic a lot of parents think about when they feel that there spouse is no longer compatible with them and also the fact that it’s not working out for reason only they will know. It may just be the fact that two people that were deeply in love just feel out of it because of no connection anymore. In the article “Just Whom Is This Divorce” Good” For? Written by Elizabeth Marquart talks about how divorce can cause children even from a good divorce go through it there selves when they get older, children also feel that they are to blame for their parents getting divorced and they lose all interest for other things, there is also a lot of controversy about which parent gets which day can just lead up to a huge custody battle for most.
Many couples argue to win but over the long term this often results in a breakup. Couples could avoid destroying their relationship by making time for each other not arguing ineffectively and learning the art of listening. Couples argue about many things finances, health, child rearing, commitment, etc. in order for an argument to be effective both parties must maintain focus on the topic at hand. When we digress and lose focus nothing is being accomplished.
In the book both sisters had to deal with their spouse cheating on them but they both just wanted revenge on their husband and boyfriend at first but that wasn’t the right way to go about it. One of my favorite lines in the book is in the chapter where the spiritual counselors tell Vanessa and Thomas that just because god says its okay to divorce and adulterer doesn’t mean you should. I think that in this day and age, we are so quick to throw in the towel and sometimes god really wants us to look at the “for better or for worse” part. I think that if your husband or wife was to make a mistake we shouldn’t be so quick to get a divorce and try to work things out. This book taught me that divorce isn’t the way to solve your problems all though time.
I would have been a disgrace to my family and probably would have been disowned. Love to me is a very serious thing to consider and I have trust issues of letting people in intimately so marrying a stranger wouldn't work for me. If I was going to share the rest of my life with someone, share my bed, and myself, someone to be the father of my children then it would have to be someone I know, trust, and love. In history there were many cases of abuse, murder, suicide, and spouses who ran away because they were force to marry people they didn't love and sometimes people they didn't know very well. Especially because way
Anna was drowning in the misery of her marriage and in guilt from seeing another man on one side but is happy to be with Gurov. Anna states that, “for years now they had not been comfortable together, in their intimacy and at a distance… It was something they might have known once” (Oates 449), which explains that her unhappy marriage forced her to search for a person to fulfill the lost emotions at home. Committing adultery is more of an emotional fulfillment that it is a physical need but it derives from the want to find someone who means something more. If couple who married shows that they do not love each other mutually, it should be acceptable for the two to be involved in an affair because neither of them truly gets hurt, providing act of cheating to be meaningless and
And as always with ancient texts you need to take into account what time may have done to it. Such as things going missing or being lost in translation. Legitimacy is one of the most important things to Athenian citizens and if a child is found to be illegitimate it can cause great problems for the kurios. This could be one of the main reasons men would be afraid of their wives, as without a legitimate heir they may not be able to inherit property. This can be shown in the ‘Proof of Marriage’ source as the phratry must accept that a child is legitimate, otherwise property will not be given to the son.
The Fairy Tale In his essay, “The End of Courtship,” Leon R. Kass claims that “people on both the left and right have come to regard the breakup of marriage as a leading cause of neglect, indeed, of the psychic and moral maiming, of America’s children”(224). The high divorce rates in our society are staggering and recognizable; yet we can point out the problem but can’t seem to provide a solution. There are several “deal breakers” in a marriage with many being obvious and some not so obvious; however the relationship problems people face today are no different then what couples faced in the past when divorce was rare and vows of lifetime commitments and family values were worth fighting for. The question we must ask ourselves is
If divorce by consent were ever adopted, ‘there would be a very real risk that in the end widespread divorce would come to be an accepted feature of our society… [and] a normal incident of life’ (Morton Commission, 1955). Discuss The concerns of the Morton Commission have become a reality. Divorce is a banal and prevalent feature of our society. Virtually all divorces are terminated through the special procedure because most of them are uncontested and it is a quicker process. Today, there is a culture of divorce on demand despite the strict substantive provisions of the the MCA 1973.
Other families have suffered losses because of the feud between these two families that lasted for generations. Most of these deaths would never have occurred if the two families were not fighting. Furthermore, Friar Lawrence told Lord Capulet that Juliet sought advice to avoid the marriage to Paris without disobeying her father; she even threatened to kill herself in his chamber if the Friar refused to help (5:3:236-241). Lord Capulet should not have yelled or threatened Juliet over an arranged marriage to Paris. He pressured her into drinking the concoction out of desperation.
Perhaps most of the time the only solution to living happily is by getting divorce. There is not a specific reason of why people choose to divorce, but base on Psychologist studies there is a many reasons of why people choose to separate their life after sharing it together for many years. Some of the reasons of why people get divorce are: • Lack of Communication • Domestic Violence • Alcohol and Substance Abuse The breakdown of a family can have many repercussions on the individual members with the least involvement. The children involved in a divorce are often the most impacted victims of a divorce. Children with divorced parents are often left feeling neglected by the parent that has chosen to move out, unloved, and often times burdened with feelings of guilt.
