These relationships are most likely to be non voluntary such as arranged or forced marriages. These marriages however are more than just two people getting married, it is argued that these marriages are more about two families joining one another and becoming one, in some cases extended family are likely to be living together. However, the other type of categorised culture is an individualistic culture. The western societies tend to be this culture and consist of having the emphasis on an individual’s freedom, achievements and rights. These kinds of relationships are normally voluntary and formed for an individual’s happiness rather than for the happiness of a family.
Almost all people think that getting married the one who he or she loves is natural. But there are some situations when someone cannot get married to him or her because it is socially unacceptable. The definition of marriage for different people means different things. Marriage has some forms, but nowadays the same sex marriage is the most discussed topic. So in this essay I’m going to compare the traditional marriage and the same sex marriage.

Bishop Malone states; “Marriage is the foundation of the family and the best place for children to be loved, cared for, educated, and taught to be productive, creative, upright, and responsible citizens”. What Bishop Malone is saying is that this environment is what is best for a child. I also feel this is true but I believe
Whereas, the couples must love each other unconditionally and decide on choosing each other without the input of anyone else but themselves, it is assumed that “married couples should be best friends, sharing their most intimate feelings and secrets. They should express affection openly but also talk candidly about problems. And of course they should be sexually faithful to each other.” (Coontz 381) In my opinion, I do not agree with Stephanie Coontz saying George Shaw theory of marriage has unrealistic expectations even though each culture has their own interpretation of marriage. No matter what each culture is different, if they believe that having more than one wife or having cospouses it is their choice and some will stay true to the values they were raised on. Finally, Coontz brought forth if someone is not marrying for love but just for the status then what is the point of getting married.

Practitioners need to value children and their opinions and make sure they use inclusive practice. They must treat all genders and variety of people with the same respect and be non bias. This is also incorporated in cultural diversity, the fact that opinions and what is seen as right or wrong, differs from cultures however they are both equally correct and right. An example of this would be polygamy, some cultures would find this acceptable and normal however some may not approve and believe you should be faithful to one person, however as we can apply relative ethics, it means that neither one of them is wrong. My ideal policy to promote equality, inclusion and diversity. Diversity means, for example having a variety of religions or gender. Recognising we have a very diverse population, celebrating their celebrations too. Equality means to treat each child equally, not different because of their race, sex or religion. Value each child as an individual and ensuring all that children are treated fairly and at the same level of respect and attention.
For example, in some cultures it may be acceptable for a man to have more than one wife, while in other cultures this would be seen to be immoral, and even a crime. Different cultures express different moral codes of conduct and relative ethics allows all the different circumstances and cultures to be put into prospective when analyzing whether an action would be intrinsically good or bad. In relative ethics, it avoids judging one culture against another as it is tolerant. To a relativist, there are no universal truths, and because of this then there are no objective standards by which one culture can judge another. No one culture is better than another.

As we know marriage is a basic right of the people, so nobody can oppose and force someone to marry with someone else. This means that one can marry whomever he or she wishes. However I think that this rule does not apply for gay people, because when rules are made, it is usually based on real life, moral values, and natural law. Marriage is the most important social institution, and it is a formality for the perpetuation of procreation; hence same sex marriage cannot meet this requirement.
