Minimum wage: The national minimum wage is the minimum pay per hour almost all workers are entitled to by law. The minimum wage rate depends on a worker's age and if they are an apprentice. Working hours: The law says that workers don't usually have to work more than 48 hours a week on average, unless they chose to. Discrimination: It is against the law to treat someone differently because of a personal characteristic. There are several types of discrimination, such as: Age Being or becoming a transsexual person Being married or in a civil partnership Being pregnant or having a child Disability Race including colour, nationality, ethnic or national origin Religion, belief or lack of religion/belief Sex Sexual orientation Discrimination doesn't have to be deliberate and intentional. It can occur indirectly with working conditions or rules that disadvantage one group of people more than another. Healthy and safety: There is a Health and safety law poster which is to be displayed in all business premises. Health and safety policy should also include details of COSHH- Control of substances harmful to health. Holiday entitlements: Almost all workers are legally entitled to 5.6 weeks paid holiday per year. The employer can include bank holidays as part of the statutory annual leave. Most workers who work a 5-day week must receive 28 days' paid annual leave per year. This is calculated by multiplying a normal week (5 days) by the annual entitlement
