EQUALITY: Equality is practiced by ensuring equal care and support for all children, young people and staff within our homes to be able to access services, participation and opportunities to develop and reach full potential. It requires different needs to be recognised and supported, rather than everyone being 'treated the same'. Although our children are treated equally, it is recognised that each has different needs and therefore treated as individuals. This was a particular area to be identified when accommodating siblings, ensuring each child had indiviudal care plans which identified individual needs and support required along with promoting a sibling relationship. Equality in practice eliminates discrimination. Everyone is given an equal chance to learn and develop. Everyone is given the skills and support needed to challenge discrimination. As manager, I work the floor and complete Reg 34 audits to ensure that staff conduct promotes equality, diversity and inclusion, as individual staff and as a team. Young peoples monthly meetings and key work sessions actively promote their rights and choices. Through childrens meetings and on-going key work sessions, we discuss anti-bullying, complaints procedure and feeling safe, in a safe environment where they are able to challenge discrimination and express their own views/feelings. Staff undertake annual training in Equality and Diversity. DIVERSITY: Diversity requires us to recognise and value differences, including races & cultures. Within our homes, we display diversity and promote displays which reflect a positive image of diversity in the world we live in to be celebrated. Within the homes I manage, a discussion is held each month with the staff and young people about our 'culture board'. We look at the world around us and discuss and celebrate each month.
