Part 1: Living in a diverse world 1. What is meant by diversity? Diversity means difference. Diversity can recognise people who are sharing the same characteristics and people who are different from the others. Diversity means helping others to notice and respect them which can help society to live in more peaceful society. 2. Describe the community you live in. Highlight some of the variations you may observe in terms of: • Interests • Beliefs • Ages • Lifestyles • Personal, social and cultural identities. Winchester is a beautiful town which used to be a capital of England and because of that, is always full of tourists from all over the world. My community in most, is inhabited by rich, elder people who decided to spend their old age here. But, because of two, really good university’s, there is a lot of young students as well. There is a variety of lifestyles which begun from businessman’s drinking their take away coffee, mothers walking with their children, to people who performs music on a high street to earn some money. There is also the same group of people, who are jogging every afternoon, every single day, no matter of the weather. My community is a mixture of beliefs: Nepalese family’s wearing their national cloths, Islamic women’s with their body hidden under their cloths and catholic, who are meeting every Sunday on mass. We’ve got here also different groups of foreigner’s, so you can hear lots of different languages: polish, French and Spanish. 3. Explain how the variations in question 2 contribute to the diversity of the community. Because of young people, there is a lot of library’s which help everybody to find time to sit down and enjoy their book.
