Creating the Myth In Linda Seger's analogy of the different "Myth", she writes about the "hero myth" in successful movies (334). As in most stories, the "hero" starts out as plain and somewhat insignificant. Throughout the journey and in the end, he becomes the hero (335). Sometimes they are afraid of the unknown that awaits them, receiving help from archetypes in order to accomplish their goals. They build their confidence by transforming from the ordinary to the extraordinary, overcoming all obstacles to defeat their enemies.
This scene takes place about an hour into the film. The director’s intention with this scene was to show the second task Ofelia had to complete and to set up the conflict between Ofelia and the underworld. This film was made in 2006, where special effects were high tech and very realistic. This is reflected in the film and how heavily it relies on fantasy effects such as fairies and the Pale Man. It is highly regarded for its fantastic special affects use, winning an Academy Award for “Best Achievement in Makeup” among others.
I was really pleased just how well the movie really made it feel like you were back in the 50’s right alongside with the famous gangster, Mickey Cohen. Although I thought Gangster Squad was an overall great movie, if there was one thing I thought could have been a tad bit better it would be the acting. There was a lot of great actoris in the film, such as, Sean Penn, Ryan Gosling, Emma Stone, Giovanni Ribisi. However, Sean Penn was really the only one that stood out for me, everyone else just seemed like they weren’t as into the whole era as much as he was, or able to act like it. Even though he was a little over the top sometimes, it made sense for the sense of the character he was playing.
Godfather II The real importance of any movie can't be adequately appraised solely by box office success or critical response. 'The Godfather Part II” is an example of how a carefully crafted sequel to a great film can become both a box office and critical success when attention is paid to its artistic quality. The movie continues the tale of the Corleone family, and presents to the viewers a world filled with greed and betrayal, family union and loyalty. A companion piece in the truest sense of the term, “The Godfather Part II” earned as much praise as its predecessor, if not more. Earning twelve Academy Award nominations, the second installment has been rightfully hailed as the best sequel of all time.
All meta-ness aside (which could be an entire essay on this year’s syllabus), “Baadasssss!” is a well made film. It has style, direction, and badassery. The opening is reminiscent of the film that is the subject of the greater whole: “Sweet Sweetback’s Baadasssss Song”. The sun-kissed L.A. almost-overexposed cinematography gave the film a 70s look that definitely fit, and the dream sequences and hallucinations allowed for good insights into the main character. Melvin was definitely portrayed as at least an ambitious man by the mostly low angles of him.
Mollie D. Lesslie Instructor: English 101 Unit 1 / Essay 1 Final Draft January 22, “Timeline” Adventure, Fantasy, Sci-Fi, Flat After reading the book, "Timeline" by Michael Crichton, I was very excited to see the movie. The story is fascinating for an action/adventure, fantasy/sci-fi fan. Classic action/adventure encapsulating pretentious villains, harrowing rescues in a sci-fi setting of time travel with a touch of romance and a slight bit of comic relief. Yet somehow the screen version left something to be desired. After all, one would think, how could you go wrong when Michael Crichton’s creative track record includes such films as "Westworld", and "Twister".
Key Factors * The Merry men’s expertise in their robbing techniques is a key success factor for the band. * High labor productivity is a key success factor due to the amount of merry man robin hood incorporated into his band * Well Respected Name (Brand) * Patent protection would be a key success factor if the merry men were a patented group or band. It would have been extremely hard for another’s group of robbers to compete with Robin Hood’s brand of merry men and carry out robbing activities like Robin Hood’s men did. I have discovered many strengths, weaknesses, opportunities and threats that merry men are facing. The group has strength in its numbers.

Throughout the film, the character appeals to us more and more as we find his humorous side; he’s tough and daring presence and most importantly his joy in disobeying the rules. Now looking at this description, we are split between and perfect man, and a generally dreadful citizen, and this is one way of approaching the modern man in Fight Club, on the outside, the American Dream can be fulfilled, on this inside, there is
A reader will seldom find that his perception is correct in reality of the novel but that’s what makes the novel so interesting. Perceptions are said to be influenced by an individual’s senses. Through these senses a ‘truth’ is formulated. This is emphasised in the novel upon 4 young men confronting a man who is perceived due to his physical appearance as foul, dangerous and untrustworthy. Yet the reality of it is that this man is a king of great power whom they will soon bow down to.
