What made Achilles such an honorable hero was the fact that he fought for his own pride, not the desire to conquer the war. Although throughout the war, Achilles character flaws impede his ability to fight and act with integrity. His insurmountable rage is the epitome of these flaws, showing vibrantly through his rage for Agamemnon and ultimately destroying his integrity. His never ending lust for glory is the reason why his rage surmounts from a poisoned pride, which is his real Achilles’ heel. Additionally, a hero must be able to make decisions benefitting the majority and not just themselves. However, Odysseus is not a hero because he is cowardly, disloyal, and self-centered. Odysseus had many chances where he could have been given great glory but would just let other’s have the glory. Odysseus solved many problems while on his epic quest in the Odyssey where he had to use his knowledge and wisdom to save his shipmates. Although these small little adventures were not helping Greece to much Odysseus was able to stop others from getting hurt if they ever have to meet these terrible creatures and scenarios which helps Greek’s even a little. In a psychological fight against the adults, Ender once again lost due to a major lack of understanding. Although Ender understood that the adults would not be nice to him, Ender did not know that he is unknowingly killing billions of buggers for the adults already. Ender, who did not want to fight the buggers, yet, is fighting them unknowingly, like a puppet for the adults. In this case, the adults were able to manipulate Ender, something Ender did not like. In fact, Ender thought that he has defeated the adults by defeating the bugger fleet on the simulator, when in reality it is the adults who won with their deception.
In both the human and animal eyes Grendel is seen like a monster. In conclusion, Grendel can be seen as a monster and could be a good character, which has been though a lot in his life. With no one to neither talk to nor interact with, this lonesome life is what ignited the fire that made him the way he is. You could say he is a bad character if you see things in your perspective, but did you ever try to see it in his point of view? For example, human killings animals, does that mean we are monster.
Grendel is a murderous creature who has been killing off the Danes for 12 years without any mercy. He has caused great strife for the King of the Danes, King Hrothgar, and cannot easily be defeated. To be such a successful villain, a character must possess certain qualities. Although he does not survive his battle with Beowulf, Grendel is a masterful villain because he has superhuman qualities, he has repulsive physical characteristics, and he shows no mercy towards his victims. The first reason Grendel makes a great villain is his superhuman qualities.
