Changing to alternative sources would be too expensive. Those that debate a change is needed say that Coal, oil and natural gas is polluting our atmosphere, the air that is breathed and killing wildlife. People will soon run out of these three sources and there should be a backup plan put into action before it is too late. I personally can see both sides; however, I want to see the United States use wind, solar or water for their energy sources. The United States is broke, and we owe so much money to other countries as it is.
Modernity may cease with global warming as half the biggest companies are oil companies, and oil is the essence of life. Deforestation and the effects of global warming on our forests and trees are far-reaching and quite evident. All our planets physical features are changing rapidly. And McKibben repeats himself on purpose to get his point across: the planet we knew is no more, we live on a new, more complex and harsher
Coal, natural gas, and oil are burned for energy in many ways such as cars and power plants. Forest burning for deforestation also causes C02 emissions. C02 emissions are harmful to the planet and cause the planet to heat up. Global warming causes worse weather conditions in the world amongst other issues. With so many issues that can arise with a hotter Earth, I believe this to be a major issue that needs to be addressed.
This coupled with an increase in living for the majority of the world, especially RICs such as India where its oil consumption had increased by 40 million tonnes over a 6 year period, makes supplying the world’s energy demands a very difficult task. The main source of energy for the majority of the world comes from fossil fuels; however this reliance is a large cause for concern as these are finite and cause great environmental damage. It is believed that we have reached peak oil production, meaning that we are producing more than we ever have or ever will in the future. It is thought that at current levels of consumption we only have 40 years of oil supplies remaining. Resulting in increasing prices and increased reliance on unstable oil rich nations that can limit supply so as to earn
All of these solutions have many issues. Hydrogen needs more technology and about fifty years to become cheap and available. Bio-diesel would do more harm than good using food for fuel instead of for worldwide hunger. Solar and wind power would take a lot more development of gathering this natural resource and would take time. The only way to face this problem is head-on.
Environmental Values Rebecca Wallace September 25th, 2014 SCI/362SCI/362 Instructor: Gretchen Messier When it comes to the environment there are values individuals have for the ethical point of view for a better living environment. Individuals form their environmental ethics to have the knownledge of the environmental impact. There are methods used for individuals to understand the involvement of environmental issues for reconsideratio of his or her values of the environmental issues. The ethical systems are used and identify for the eenvironmental impacts of the affects on society. To continue to have a better environment it could use some knownledge of improving the environmental problems with solving them.
Discuss critically religious and secular ethical arguments about environmental issues (35) In his book, 'The End of Nature', Bill McKibben highlights the fact that we are destroying the natural environment at an increasing rate, for our own short-term gain. Since the day that man created agriculture, and industrialisation to follow, the imbalance between man and nature has been growing. This has been accompanied by a massive population increase, tripling in the twentieth century alone. Human pressure on nature has never been so great. Such pressure has resulted in 'environmental issues', ranging from global warming and eutrophication, to the depletion of natural resources and an increase in the number of landfill sites.
Paul Vu Reusser ENGL Comp 1113 8AM 23 June, 2014 Environmental Danger Have you ever wondered how some oil companies get natural gas? There are numerous ways to obtain oil from the ground. Most people require natural gas in their everyday life. It has become more common, cheaper, and cleaner energy source. One of the ways to get it is called fracking.
Also being America we are always in great demand for energy and being that 25% of our electricity comes from natural gas production it will only increase in the future. Since hydraulic fracturing is becoming more used today than it ever has new laws and regulations are being changed and enforce to protect the interest of the public. There is a lot of contamination associated with this type of drilling and proper disposal is a necessity and to be followed accordingly to ensure the environment does not be permanently affect. I truly believe that hydraulic fracturing is the future and we will be hearing more about it and hopefully it will be a logic solution to our energy
Throughout history, desire, whether good or evil, has been a driving force for people’s actions. While desire for power and wealth brings tyranny and bondage, desire for knowledge can bring change and innovation. After World War II, the desire and motive behind nuclear progression changed dramatically from warfare to reliable energy. A major land mark in energy production occurred in December 1951 when the EBR-1 research reactor in Arco, Idaho used nuclear power to generate electricity. The scientist’s desire to harness a reliable energy source changed the world, and now “about one-tenth of the world’s electricity is produced by nuclear reactors” (Jackson et al.).
