Environmental Factors Paper MRK/421 Environmental Factors of Wal-Mart Wal-Mart is the global leader in the retail industry, with net sales at $443,854 million in 2012 an increase of 5.9% from 2011 (Wal-Mart, 2013) and compared to competitive retail stores including Target, Walgreen, Costco and Safeway in continues to show growth in the domestic market and in the global market with over 3 times the increase as the competition has produced. Wal-Mart is dramatically impacted by environmental factors both domestic and globally, since Sam Walton open his first Wal-Marts store over 50 years ago the company has grown and Wal-Mart operates its business currently in 10,800 established stores under 69 banners in 27 different countries and an e-commerce website available in 10 different countries. (Wal-Mart, 2013) Environmental factors can come from many different areas and conditions and can impact the growth of any company greatly. These factors include environmental and community factors, the competitive environment, technology factors, ethical factors, cultural differences, political differences, laws, regulations and social responsibility. Presented in this marketing research paper is information on domestic and global environmental factors that can affect the company’s marketing decisions, the opportunities and threats that need to be considered, how technology will impact the organization and present an analysis of the importance of social responsibility and ethics. Global and Domestic Factors Global and domestic factors affect every company; they both include internal and external conditions that can influence how production is completed. Wal-Mart has to conduct proper research when making an expansion into a new market whether it is an international market or a local domestic expansion.
