Environmental degradation is a result of socio – economical, technological and institutional activities. These occur when there is urbanization, population growth, economic growth intensification of agriculture, increased in energy use and transportation use. The degradation of the environment has been nothing but a growing concern in Jamaica and has been observed in both rural and urban areas. This may be due to the lack of effective restrictions on a wide range of development projects. Emphasis is place on water pollution and improper waste disposal where these in turn threaten health, vegetation and infrastructure. This area of research can derive causes and consequences that should be looked at seriously with the aim of finding key factors and measure to be taken to Jamaica’s environmental plight. “Is Jamaica’s environment safe enough for the health of our citizens, or is Jamaica too caught up in benefiting from its natural resources at any means possible?” Jamaica has compromised land, water and chemicals in the air. This is important as we use these resources daily without acknowledging the consequences the environment faces. According to Dave Dyer (2010) he expressed “We can experience extensive damages to the island infrastructures. We need to look at the fundamental root cause of the problem, which stems from environmental degradation. We end up focusing on the symptoms and not treating of the disease. Because of the
