ENVIRONMENTAL BENEFITS OF A VEGETARIAN DIET INTRODUCTION. The impact of vegetarian diets to the environmental is staggering on the whole scale. Various facts that are associated with the vegetarian diet go to show that the importance of the adapting to a vegetarian diet or preferably a vegan diet cannot be overemphasized. The shocking effects of raring animals for food as compared to depending on plants to gain nutrition can best be understood from the illustrations to be presented below. It is worth noting that third world countries of which Kenya is inclusive do not contribute as much to the disastrous consequences to the environment as compared to the developed countries e.g. The United States of America. This difference can be attributed to the lack of economical power of the populace of the third world countries which confines the persons to an almost entirely vegetarian diet. This can be seen from the staple foods of most of the countries in Africa with countries like Kenya and Uganda for example depending on maize and bananas respectively as their main staple foods. Countries in West Africa also depend on foods like cassava and yam as sources of food. However, this is not to say that the hazardous impact of indulging in raring of livestock for food is not experienced in Africa, this just shows that although Africa also contributes to the pollution, it is the more developed countries e.g. the United States and European countries that contribute the most. Below are illustrations of the main problems that have resulted from avoidance of vegetarian diets or dependence on animal products for nutrition.
