Entertainment Is More Than a Personal Choice Articles often speak about how “Entertainment is a personal choice.” But that is simply a one-sided statement. The culture of entertainment is far more complex than personal choice. It affects those of the general public and its bystanders. People’s lives today are highly impacted by entertainment. Whether it’s via music, film, websites, or magazines it all has a deep impact on them by connecting individuals from all ethnic backgrounds together, and changing the view on racism and discrimination among entertainment along with other related topics. This article will describe how entertainment is not just for personal choice and how it can affect the community and all individuals whom reside in it. In an article by Samuel L. Jackson, he defines entertainment as an opportunity. One that allows for minorities (specifically African Americans) to strive in today’s entertainment business. To obtain lead roles; instead of just the stereotypical thug, drug dealer, or rap artist but rather be portrayed as a doctor, lawyer, teacher or even detective. This allows for newer, more innovative talent to be discovered. It gives young actors a more prominent future to look forward to as well as bring the community and culture to together. This can expand the boundaries of entertainment by bringing in new, fresh and unique material to the industry; thus creating more diverse films, stories, and genres of music that all impact its communities and bring like-minded individuals together. A large influence in today’s entertainment would be video games. Based off Steven Johnson article, they occupy a large part of this generation; hence it is common to say that on average, teenagers spend about 6 to 7 hours a day playing some form of video game.
