Stop the Neglect By: Lexi Armbright Imagine sending your child to work and not knowing if they will be back or not. This is the reality for many families in different countries. There are many issues that are affecting this world little at a time. But one that is absolutely disturbing is the lack of child labor laws in so many countries. Child labor laws control the age and amount of work a child is doing. It makes sure that children can work in a safe environment and not get harmed in any way. But so many countries do not have that law, and children as young as 5 are working in factories and other dangerous places. Though his efforts were helpful, his mother left to go to America and make more money for them and come back. Well, she never returned and Enrique missed her. He decided to leave and go to America and find her, but had to work hard to get the chance to even attempt it. In Mexico, child labor laws are almost non-existent. So working at a young age in unsafe conditions is a normal situation for these kids. The southern Democratic Republic have children between the ages of 8 - 12 working in the artisanal copper and cobalt mine. Artisanal miners use their hands to extract materials, utilizing little technology or machinery. An estimated 40 percent of artisanal mining workers in the DRC are children. The fact that around 40 percent of the miners are children is awful. The miners who were adults would not do anything because all this work was so they could help their families survive. 19 percent said they had seen a child die on an artisanal mining site. 87 percent experienced body pain, and many had been injured. 67 percent reported frequent or persistent coughing. Several girls had had genital infections after working waist-deep in acidic water. So the only way they can, they have their children work. Whether it be dangerous or illegal. The poverty will make anybody take drastic measures. No mother wants their son or daughter to go to work and worry if they will be back that night or not. Money is their priority, and so many families are in need. The child labor laws are starting to be reinforced in many countries, but not all of them can fully agree with it. The families who have their children working is all to make more money to survive. It all is a struggle for so many families around the world. But it is all for the welfare of the
