Luke Bilbao Christina Martinez ENG 102 1038 October 8, 2013 A Fortified Life Enhance your lifestyle with fortified foods, beat deficiencies in nutrients just by eating what you love. But in reality, when it comes to enhancing foods, certain limitations are set and it doesn’t quite seem to benefit the health of the public community as a whole. “Go Forth and Fortify” by Marion Nestle is a great article that relates to the process of enhancing or enrichment of certain minerals and vitamins in foods through a process called fortification. Although Nestle does not seem to quite agree with the fortification process due to limitations on those who receive fortified foods. She does seem to believe that fortification may also have few positive effects in public health. These positive effects can be linked to a reduced number of medical patients with goiter and other medical conditions, this happens by eating fortified foods with added minerals or vitamins. Although Nestle is not fully against fortification, she believes that fortification does not automatically make diets healthier and can also raises serious questions about potentially harmful health risks. When looking at this paper and seeing how it has been written, it is not hard to see that Nestle has succeeded in making her article quite effective for the reader. Logos deals greatly with credibility when writing about a certain topic that involves a lot of science. It is always important to show why something is the way it is and how big of an effect it has had and can have. Nestle uses logos in her paper to reassure the reader that what is said can be considered true, making Nestle more believable and credible in her claims. Along with Nestle’s great skill in logos, she manages to introduce and combat many counterarguments. This is another reason why this paper can be considered well written and effective.
