Shaun Wilson Trident University ENG102 Module 3 Case Assignment 15 August, 2013 "Powerpoint vs. Prezi" In this Case assignment we are asked to read both of the presentations provided by David Wicks and Phil Bird that highlight the differences between the Prezi and Powerpoint presentations, and what both authors think about each program. First I read the presentation by David Wicks who points out at the beginning some of the main differences between the two applications. With Prezi, it is a non-linear navigation, opposed to Powerpoint, which uses a linear navigation. What this means is that Powerpoint is a straight forward slide show, from point A to B, and there is no getting around it. Even if the person need to get to slide 5, they must go through the first four to get there. With nonlinear navigation it is quite the opposite. The user has more freedom to explore through their presentation, and even have the freedom of exploring through even more links, and you can choose which links you would like to explore first. Another difference he shows is the layouts, and how Powerpoint is a slide layout, pretty straight forward, and Prezi is more of a map layout which allows the user to once again, explore what they want with ease, instead of that linear layout of Powerpoint. Also, Powerpoint is a computer based program, which usually comes standard on most Windows computer systems, where Prezi is all web based, which makes it a little less convenient for the avid user that may not have web access everywhere they go, and would be unable to access their account, unlike Powerpoint, where it is always available once you turn on your laptop, unless you buy the Prezi Pro option, which allows the user to access the files offline.
