When Jim Dies, it greatly affects Henry and makes him realize the true meaning of courage – not being afraid to face death, as Jim wasn’t. Henry reveals his immaturity at the beginning of the novel when he’s leaving for Washington as “he basked in the smiles of the girls,” (pg. 6) demonstrating that the only reason he wants to join the army is because he wants the army uniform and weaponry to impress the ladies. However, very quickly in the course of a few days, Henry’s maturity level rises. During battle, Henry
Napoleon was successful for a variety of reasons until 1806. Motivation, Toulon, tactics, subordinates, ambition, meritocracy, Code Napoleon, Austerlitz and the enemy making mistakes were all very influential in his success. Motivation was a significant reason for Napoleon’s success as having a motivated army that fought hard for their leader was very useful in battle. He took time to speak to his soldiers asking them how their families were, he gave them medals if they deserved it, by doing this he gave them motivation and it also meant that others around them wanted to do better to receive praise themselves from Napoleon. He also gave speeches to the army to motivate them, which also developed the feeling of comradery within the ranks.
He realizes he can not stand out if he wants to survive here. As the story being told first person, he gives much detail about the actions of everyone around him. He realizes that if they see him cry, it is a sign of weakness, and throughout the story he fights his urge to cry. He learns when it is right to blend in, and when it is the best time to stand out. In his second school in the second half of the novel, he feels the need to stand out, and he joins boxing and wins every match he is in.
I was a target when I was young, both for my brothers and those who call themselves my friends. Secondly, we need to appreciate that everyone is important and valued for who they are. Prior to the challenge day, Tony had thought everyone was better than he. In result, Tony would bully them and put them down to help make himself feel better. No, they are not, all they know is that their son or brother is gone, and the only reason for their loss, is a war which is completely futile, a pointless war which destroyed an entire generation. The novel also talks about pointless attacks on the enemy that can only result in certain death. A specific example of this is Pages 172-175 of Private Peaceful. This is the section of the novel where Sergeant Hanley gives a direct order to a group of men to storm the enemy’s line in broad daylight, which can result only in death. When Charlie refuses to follow the order, he is sent to the
Using his power, he gets the players to conform and forget how others think they are supposed to act towards each other. The goal specificity is also clear in the movie. Coach Boone expects his team to be ‘perfect', he expects them to win the Virginia State Championship. Former head coach and now assistant coach Bill Yoast, played by Will Patton, is also a very influential person and good leader. He is in charge of the defence and he gets his players to ‘play for him' and they become an almost unstoppable force.
Perhaps the worst, though, is that we fight, and even start wars, over race and language. Humans are all the same, despite color or tongue. And, if all people who seek to bring peace to the world give up entirely, mankind will, without a trace of a doubt, lead itself to absolute destruction. Lord of the Flies is a great example of this. In Lord of the Flies, the real purpose of human existence is forgotten among the boys
While he is no longer the victim, he finds himself fast being pulled into the dark world of the Guardians, a secret society of older boys who are orchestrating a reign of terror at his new school. When the Guardians summon him, he thinks that his disguise must have failed. The truth, however, is that the Guardians are so impressed by the new persona Elliot has created that they want him to become one of them. The book follows Elliot's struggle to find a way out of his dilemma. Whilst he has escaped his traumatic past, his future seems to be that he will join the Guardians, and become one of the bullies that he once despised.
They take the experiences they have from their failures and successes and ensure that they put them to use when developing plans to ensure success. Many people like to say that leaders can be born, but can you really trust someone who has no experiences? In the Army they always pair an officer with a noncommissioned officer (NCO). The reason for this an officer coming out of school has little to no experience in combat because he has never been there, but an NCO has seen combat, has risen through the ranks, and has the experience to advise the officer on how to accomplish the mission. With time though, the junior officer gains the experience they need to make better judgement calls.
