The juvenile Rainbow Parrotfish generally spends its time in "mangrove sanctuaries", areas where the roots of a mangrove tree grow into the ocean and serve as a safe haven for small fish. Unfortunately, due to human interference and other factors, these mangrove populations are waning as well. This is opening these sanctuaries to predators and not allowing the juvenile fish that called them home to survive. The solution essentially narrows itself down to one goal, save the mangroves and, as a result, save the Rainbow Parrotfish. The question that I am asking is: "How much, in detail, does saving the mangroves help the Rainbow Parrotfish?
They have been known to feed on fish, dolphins, whales and seals. Sharks prefer meals with a high fat content to give them energy. They are ambush hunters, taking their prey by surprise from underneath. They have been known to come up from the bottom so fast that their entire body has left the water. The Great White has only one natural predator, the orca.
These people also think that it opens the California dams to a whole host of nonfood genetically engineered organisms. Well, they do have a point, but, how would the Glofish get to the dams? A great thing about Glofish is that they can detect when they are in polluted water. These fish swim light up and swim away from areas of polluted water.” Glofish are a helpful resource to today’s society.
Orcas in captivity face premature death, “In the wild they have an average life expectancy of 30 to 50 years—their estimated maximum lifespan is 60 to 70 years for males and 80 to over 100 for females. The median age of orcas in captivity is only 9, and orcas at SeaWorld rarely make it even to the average life expectancy of their wild cousins.”(SeaWorld oh Hurt) Orcas need to swim up to a hundred miles each day but in the parks they are only confined to a tiny pool and forced to swim in the same space their entire life. Being in such small spaces, light has been shed on the fighting between killer whales. “Orcas who are not compatible are forced to live in tight quarters together. The resulting anxiety and tension cause fights between orcas.
To make people think about the fact that if an animal is considered “cute” or beautiful everything possible is done to prevent its extinction, and that people need to think about other animals as well. The picture portrays a school of blue-fin tuna in the ocean, but focuses directly on one wearing a panda mask. The text underneath it states, “Would you care more if I was a panda?” We all know that the panda is an endangered species and is near extinction. This visually argues that the blue-fin tuna is also becoming endangered, but with much less worry over the likelihood of extinction of this species. People care more about the panda than this fish.
Dr Carl Meyer from Hawaii Institute of Marine Biology stated that mass levels of shark culling “runs the risk of ecosystem-level cascade effects where a general lack of sharks results in boom or bust in populations of species further down the food chain”. Furthermore when nets are used to trap sharks, often animals such as dolphins, turtles, whales and dugongs become trapped in them. Turtles are one of the most endangered species as a whole and are just innocent bystanders in this war between humans and sharks. We need to be careful of not affecting other animals in this quest to reduce shark numbers in the name of nothing. Sharks can already be caught legally by commercial and recreational fishers so any cull would be largely
Two percent of the ocean has been overlooked by people ant it leaves ninety-eight percent of the ocean for the megladon can swim. This shark could be a very intelligent shark by possibly attacking its pray as fast as it can and head down the bottom of the big blue. The evidence has proven that there was a time this shark had lived because of the physical evidence shown by the teeth collected. The pictures clearly state that there is a mega shark out there and the eyewitnesses explained that a huge shark had been around in South Africa. There may come a time when this shark may make a mistake and show its self to the world with
With over 1m wild alligators in Florida versus a human population of 17m humans, there’s lots of opportunity for conflict. The beasts can grow to 12ft and their lethargic appearance has misled many a startled holidaymaker, within a flash they can snap their jaws and even run up to 30m.p.h. There are actually Gator Hunters operating in Florida to deal with the problematic reptiles. Obviously the animals know no boundaries but they do not seek human attacks and they usually try to avoid us, however sometimes things go wrong. Pestering, tormenting and throwing food to gators is usually the root cause.
Some fish, though, such as Hawkfish, Lionfish, and some predatory shrimp and crabs may eat the Scarlet Skunk Cleaner Shrimp. It will not tolerate copper or high levels of nitrates in the aquarium, but will require correct levels of iodine in the water to promote proper
As Burke states, “for many countries this practice is happening on the other side of the world, but for Australia, this is immediately to our south” . Due to this factor that Australia is in close proximity of the area being affected, Australia has an obligation to protect what is nearest to it. There are 5 species of whale that are located around the Southern Pacific in which Australia is responsible for, “including the humpback and blue whales.” In June 2011, Japanese whalers launched a research whaling deeming the expedition necessary to prove that commercial whaling did not affect the ecosystem. The three vessels that underwent the expedition were faced by the Sea Shepherd, an anti-whaling environmental activist group who ‘hurled paint and stink bombs’ . The fleet, led by Nisshin Maru, were only able to catch a fifth of their planned quota due to the harassment of the anti-whaler activists.
