Employment Conflict Management Fast Serve is a $25 million company that employs 350 employees to market and distribute branded sports apparel. The company opened up two online distribution channels for boys and girls to focus exclusively on the generation Y segment. The generation Y segment is usually part of a target market that is crazy about American sports. With this new change, 10% of the workforce was moved to manage the online distribution. However, after the website went live, the new technology created problems for Fast Serve. The technology on the site attracted the target market, generation Y segment, but the long time to download caused a burden to customers. Therefore, the company suffered because potential buyers were not making enough transactions for the technological investments to be viable. After not receiving the expected results, Fast Serve moved out of the online distribution. This caused the online distribution to be downsized and jobs will be lost. The factors that decide who keep their jobs are job performance and skills. The decisions that will be made will be based on keeping the company profitable and produce the maximum benefit for Fast Serve. However, with any decision to downsize jobs, there will be legal implications that the company will have to face. Potential Conflict Identifications “Conflict is an expressed struggle between at least two interdependent parties who perceive incompatible goals, scare resources, and interference from others in achieving their goals” (Wilmot & Hocker, 2007, p. 9). Fast Serve has decided to layoff three key employees. With the layoff, potential conflict will arise within the company.
