Overview/Summary of Articles Employee burnout is a topic that is not highly discussed within organizations. While many companies do not recognize this as a serious issue, employee burnout has caused companies to lose money, lose top performers, and productivity has gone down. Employee burnout takes a toll not only on the company, but the actual employee. Employees often feel as though they are transparent within the company, are not motivated, and have no voice. Managers, supervisors, and the organization as a whole can properly address issues such as these before burnout actually occurs. How To Manage Workplace Burnout by Robert Crawford explains the idea that burnout can happen at almost any level of employment. Crawford also explains how managers should have an open door policy to address burnout with employees in order to identify the problem before it arises, as well as noticing symptoms in employees who may be experiencing burnout, or on their way to experiencing burnout. Avoiding Burnout by Craig Guillot addresses burnout within the careers of auditors. Because auditing can be considered a highly stressful job, burnout is very common among this group of employees. Gulliot explains why burnout is so common, what causes it, and how to prevent it. Guillot also discusses the symptoms of burnout and how it can affect the workplace environment. This abstract will discuss these articles in detail and how they relate to handling career stressors, such as burnout, and how this information agrees and disagrees with the text in Career Management by Jeffery H. Greenhaus.
