By not allowing same sex marriage it can cause psychological distress with those who are homosexual, and those who support it. Denying somebody a chance to be happy takes a toll. Imagine this; You and your fiancé want to get married right away but the hotel won’t marry you simply because of your origin or how you look. You feel alienated and the stress not only takes a toll on your body but also your mind. “The Stigma and harm caused by denying committed lesbian and gay couples the choice to marry fuels a vicious cycle.” (U.S. Study) Herdt primarily wants to inform us that denying people something they want causes not only anger, sadness and or misery, but also changes the way people think about the world that we as Americans live in today.
Pitt’s character also reveals that a society that attempts to repress homosexuality is harmful to both itself and the community of homosexuals. Had Joe been at ease with his sexuality, he would not have married Harper and she would in turn be spared the many years of torture. Perhaps they would have become good allies or even great ones at that. But pressure from society forced them into a torturous life of abjuration (Galens et al., 197). Harper Amaty Pitt starts off as Joe’s valium-addicted, sociopathic wife.
However, one of his main struggles is to not find or fit his identity into society as a homosexual. The homosexual goes through a lot in life. Many people do not tell the society they are homosexual until they know for sure they are. Once a gay tell society they are gay, they feel more free in living their lives. Sullivan gives a clear example, “…but at this funeral couldn’t help but at least tasted a few years of life.
He does not understand the actions of certain people, especially sexual ones. Proof of this is seen in chapter 9 when Holden says, “Sex is something I just don’t understand. I swear to God I don’t.”(Salinger 63) Holden’s experiences with Sunny the prostitute; where is he gets bullied into paying an extra five dollars for nothing at all, or with Mr. Antolini, where the man that seems to be the only one that understands him, turns out to be a pedophile; showcase how innocence can often be problematic and painful. Holden’s longing for adulthood is driven by this, as adulthood seems to be a stable place without confusion and with answers for everything. Despite Holden’s longing for adulthood, Holden strives to protect the young from it.
People aren't willing to accept change and theirs not much you can do in the 1930's to change that because it was "sociality acceptable" not to. Racism was given to its full potential in this novel by displaying that of Tom Robinson being charged on a crime that he did not commit. He is accused of raping a white women by one of the most untrustworthy people in the town. This was just another accusation in this time but ended as most did, with the wrong outcome chosen because of social inequality. Differences in social status are explored largely through the overcomplicated social status.
I do believe homosexuals should be able to marry. I have multiple friends who are homosexuals and for years were tortured and ridiculed because of their decision to be homosexuals. In the past government did not allow or recognize gay marriages or allow homosexuals the same benefits as a one man and one woman marriage. Religion is one of the main reasons some people do not like the idea of homosexuals having the right to marry. One of the most used arguments about the issue is that God says that same-sex interactions (marriage, sex, lesbian, homosexual acts) are an abomination.
This implies that he may be suppressing his feelings towards Othello. He might also be in denial about his sexuality- his reasons for plotting against Othello do not make much sense and are not realistic- claims Othello slept with his wife, but he’s not sure but will go with it anyway< weak argument. Hides his motive, goes against S.T Coleridge< malicious malignity. Iago does have a reason; he is in love with Othello and wants to posses him completely. He is also jealous of Cassio, perhaps he thought he would get the position of lieutenant as he felt he and
In most television programmes homosexual men are seen as the weak character that is usually going through a form of bullying or rejection. Marxist’s would argue that the bourgeoisies (mostly white men) are the people that own these television companies and they want to keep reminding people that gay people are oppressed as they don’t want them to become too powerful. Television programmes (especially soaps) tend to use the storyline of gay people coming out as one of their most emotive storylines because they try to display ‘problems’ that people face in day to day life. For instance the storyline in Eastenders was how Johnny was coming out and his mother didn’t know how to handle nor accept the fact he was gay. There were many emotional crying scenes where his mother thought it was her fault that he was ‘different’.
The audience is caused to fear Othello's transformation into the ''green-eyed'' monster, then pity him when he claims his title in blood. The most significant flaw that Othello possesses is jealousy, however, he was not moved to it immediately. “She has deceived her father and may thee.” Iago says to him in Act 1, Scene 3. This was an attempt to convince Othello that Desdemona has or could commit adultery since she has already proved to be capable of going against her father's will with their marriage. However, Othello informs Iago that he is not a jealous man.
Bradstreet also shows identity for the Puritan men that criticize her work because men had more talent and skill, which come in handy in the society, but she sees that it’s unfair. For the men in her community she talks in stanza five, denying her writings, claiming Bradstreet’s works are “stolen”, or else it was by chance”. She writes in her poem in stanza seven, “Men have precedence and still excel, it is but vain unjustly to wage war,” in the beginning of the poem, stanza two, “Fool I grudge the Muses did not part, ‘Twixt him and me that over fluent store". These lines show that Bradstreet felt that it was not fair because men and women had different roles. Ruiz 2 During the time women had to stay home and take care of the house hold things, meanwhile men did the labor, which Bradstreet wants men and women to have the same rights.
