Title: “Embracing Trials” Text: James 1:2-4 ETS: James said to embrace trials. ESS: You should embrace trials in your life. OSS: I want my people to embrace trials in their lives. PQ: How does embracing trials affect our lives? UW: Grow As I have walked in my relationship with God, I have faced more than my share of trials. One such trial was when my wife and I were refused employment by a Christian summer camp for kids. You see, both of us had worked for this particular camp the previous year, so we thought that we were a “shoe-in” to work there for what would have made our second year in a row. Well, a few days after we had applied to the camp, we were told by the camp director that he had been informed that he was not allowed to hire us for the upcoming summer and if we wanted to find out why, we needed to contact his boss. So, we did just that, and he told us the reason why and informed us that we would never be allowed to work at that camp again. As you could imagine, this was devastating news to us, and we felt extremely rejected from this experience. The period of time following that rejection quickly became one of the hardest times of trial in my life. Unfortunately, I have had a lot of other periods of trial throughout my life, but fortunately, through those trials God has “grown” me in ways that I would not have grown had I not gone through those times in my life. Because of that, I have come to realize that when God’s Word talks about going through trials in your life, it is really saying that we need to embrace the trials we encounter in our lives. Here in James 1, he teaches us a very hard lesson, James says that trials are actually good for us and that we should embrace trials that we encounter. James tells us that times of trial are meant to be times of learning and times of growing in intimacy with God. This is why I want you to understand
