Elizer strugle to undestand his faith. Elizer Wiesel, Jewish religion is important to him and he starts to identify himself by his faith, customs, and traditional Jewish values. Elizer search for knowledge about his faith when he was 12 years old in Sighet, Transylvania. However, he is finding about himself as a Jewish. “During the day I studied the Talmud.”(pg1) In addition, Elie, at the age of 12 he was already interested in his religion. “One day I asked my father to find me a master to guide me in my studies of the Cabbala.”(pg1) In fact, Elie was trying to learn more by looking for a mentor to teach him about his religion. “One evening I told him how unhappy I was because I could not find a master in Sighet to instruct me into the Zohar.”(pg3) However, Elie was disappointed because he could not find a mentor. Elizer is attempting to understand about his customs and traditions of being a jew during the world war 2. In fact, Elie is trying to adapt to his Jewish traditions. “We used to stay in the synagogte after all the faithful had left sitting in the gloom, where a few half-burned candles still gave a flickering light.”(pg7) In other words, Elie was doing a Jewish tradition. “There are thousands of gates leading into the orchard of mystical truth.”(pg3) Furthermore, he was going to acquire knowledge about some truth in his religion. “We would read together, ten times over, the same page of the Zohar.” (pg3) However, he would read it over and over again to learn it by heart. Elie is acquiring knowledge about his traditional Jewish values by studying the Cabbala and reciting his prayers. In fact, Elie was acquiring knowledge about his Jewish religion studying the Cabbala. “I was parting from my mother and Teipora forever.”(pg27) In other words, Elie does not know if he is gone be able to see his mother again. “talked to me for long hours of the
