Problem definition The purpose of this research study is to find if a relationship exists between playing video games and social behaviour. The study will look at a specific demographic and observe the nature of the games they play, the amount of time the participants spend on video games and their social behaviour. Research Methodology Research Type  The research will be adhoc, cross-sectional, exploratory and social.  The research will be approached from a quantitative point of view. Population & sample Our sample includes 40 participants, age ranging (15-40) years; thirty of the participants come from Cranbrook, BC, the other ten from Toronto, ON. Methods and Techniques  Assess previous research done on video games and social behaviour  Process and analyze information obtained from questionnaires about the topic Data Analysis  Data will be placed in an excel sheet for analysis.  Use of charts and diagrams to explain findings. Work Schedule (timing) Stage Task Stage 1: October 20th- 29th (2010) Identify the problem statement, agree on the research objectives and create the questionnaire. Stage 2: October 1st – 14th (2010) Perform the fieldwork, have a minimum of forty respondents. Stage 3: November 15th – 30th (2010) Analyse the research findings and prepare the final report. Final Stage: December7th- 10th (2010) Hand in the Final copy of the finished report. Research Objectives 1) How are social skills built up or brought down through the playing of video games? 2) Find any relationship that exists between playing video games and a person’s social behaviour. 3) Are video gamers as a whole more or less social now there is an online option? 4) What are the social aspects of various popular video games 5) Why do people play so much? Are the games addictive? 6) Support or deny previous arguments that have been made
