Effects of Stressors Checkpoint What steps of the general adaptation syndrome will I experience? You may experience all three stages of the General Adaptation Syndrome. You will have an alarm reaction, where you body will begin to prepare to defend itself against the stressor. You will decide if you want to fight the stressor or flee. The next stage is the resistance stage, in this stage your body will attempt to gain energy. Lastly, you will go through the exhaustion stage if you do not deal with your stressor. What emotional and cognitive effects might this stressor produce? You will experiencestate anxiety due to the threat of failure (not meeting your deadline). You may experience anger towards your boss who continues to increase your workload. If the stress continues you may have a chance of becoming depressed. You may have cognitive effects as well such as not thinking clearly or memory loss which will jeopardize you meeting your deadlines and coming up with ideas for your campaign. If this stress continues, how might it affect my health? If the stress continues there is a possibility it weaken your immune system which will make you more susceptible to getting sick or diseases. You may experience headaches; such as, muscle-tension or migraines. Job strain also puts you at risk of coronary heart disease (CHD) and cancer. You will also be at risk for other psychological health issues such as personality changes or disorders. How might I resolve this situation effectively? You will need to take control immediately. You will want to exercise more often, eat healthier, and get enough sleep at night. You will also want to confide in someone you trust and socialize with others. Writing a journal can also help you relieve your stress and minimize your health effects. Find time for you to relax and do enjoyable activities and create boundaries at
