Sports have had a huge impact on the world for, what seems like, forever. The first competitive event was thought of and played by the chinese in 2697 B.C. (Ancient Olympic Games). Today, there are over 8,000 known sports in the world (List of Sports). Sports have evolved into priorities in peoples lives, whether they play them for fun, to make a living, or just simply to watch them. The interesting rules and the competitiveness makes people want to play them all over the world. Besides just being fun and entertaining, sports come with many other positive effects. First of all, participating in sports keep people active and healthy. Teaching strength, endurance, stamina, and flexibility, improves people’s health and ultimately makes people feel better doing regular, everyday activities. Sports can also help with obesity, one of America’s biggest problems. Playing sports serves as a great way to watch weight and burn the extra calories gained during the day. Sports also make kids get up and get going. Intramural teams become perfect ways to keep kids away from addicting video games and off the couch. It pushes them outdoors where they can take in fresh air while getting in a good workout. Playing sports allows people to be active, which opens their mind, and just simply makes them feel better. Besides keeping people active and healthy, participating in sports teaches important qualities needed in life. Playing sports helps with time management, a very important quality. Going to practices or games is only one of the many tasks that several teens and children face from day to day, along with; homework, making time for friends and family, other extracurricular activities, part-time jobs, and enjoying other hobbies.
