For example: A Service user cannot understand a menu when It is present in a list form , so we could help them make their choice by getting images of meals they would be presented with to eat. Also try to explain the importance of a healthy diet. If the dilemma was to be a reoccurrence or become a bigger issue at meal times, it would be a good idea to report it to the NIC or the service users case manager to then discuss other options available with the chef. 2. Each service user is different and they all like/ dislike different foods.
Her fibre intake was too low in her one day diet, which is not good for her healthy. Also Samantha had consumed a lot of protein which is not good for the body, it will be broken to amino-acids which later on will be
Discuss two or more ways in which eating and satiation are cont\rolled by neural mechanisms One way which eating and satiation are controlled by neural mechanisms is through the Set point theory and Homeostasis – the maintenance of a constant internal environment. KEELEY (1986) proposed that we have a biologically determined standard around which our body weight (specific fat mass) is regulated, hence if we eat too much or too little; homeostatic mechanisms accordingly return us to our original weight. However, PASSER ET AL (2009) found persistent overeating or under eating may make it increasingly more difficulty for homeostatic mechiasms to do this and over time may settle a new weight. Homeostasis controls a dual-feeding system, which when blood the glucose increases the ventromedial hypothalamus is activated, giving you the feeling of being full. When blood glucose decreases the Lateral hypothalamus is activated, giving you the feeling of hunger.
Failure to do so results in their immune system producing antibodies which attacks the lining of their bowel causing them to have abdominal pains, constipation/diarrhoea, bloating, difficulty in gaining weight in childhood or maintaining weight in adulthood and anaemia. Because it affects the way their body can absorb nutrients it can also lead to osteoporosis and increase their risk of bowel cancer. Some foods can be bought that are labelled ‘gluten free’ but tend to be more expensive. • Irritable Bowel Syndrome (IBS) is the term used to describe a condition when on inspection of the bowel everything seems normal, but the person suffers with symptoms like abdominal pain, flatulence, bloating and constipation/diarrhoea. The person may want to keep a food diary to help discover which foods make their condition worse and avoid them in the future.
Howard (2001) noted that young people from poorer homes have lower intakes of energy, vitamins, and minerals. Poor nutrition will affect health, children’s energy levels will be low, resulting in poor concentration in class, they will also have a weaker immune system meaning more days off of school. Wilkinson (1996) ‘the lower the social class, the higher the rate of hyperactivity, anxiety, and conduct disorders’ which obviously have a negative impact on education. There is also the
Three Day Food Intake SCI220 November, 1 2011 Three Day Food Intake My personal three day food intake average was a little over 2200 calories per day. Completing meals healthier and with lower calories will help me stay healthy and lose weight. The average calorie intake for a person my age and weight is over 3600 calories (iProfile 2.0, 2011). Eating foods low in fat and sugars will not only help me lose weight, but also make my body feel better. Compared to my previous one day food intake of 5600 calories this three day diet is noticeably better.
The field of learning and motivation studies how behavior depends on the outcomes of past behaviors as well as current motivations. This means that a past or current experience with a certain food can cause your brain to reject that food. For instance, if a person eats something and then throws up, that person’s brain will associate that food with illness and cause the person to grow a disliking to it. This is possible even if the food is not the cause of the person throwing up. Another field of psychological research is cognitive psychology, which studies the processes of thought and knowledge.
Eating gluten causes the abdomen to bloat out. Muscle wasting is not as common as bloating of the abdomen, however, it is a finding that coincides with the malnutrition that comes with the condition resulting from the damaged intestinal villi. Questions that may be asked: Q: If I suspect that either my child or myself has Celiac Sprue, when should I approach my doctor? A: As soon as possible. According to the American Academy of pediatrics states that children are getting less playtime, because of the no child left behind act. Research has shown that children engage in less physical activity in the summer and gain weight two to three times faster. Watching television can cause a big issue with childhood obesity. When children are viewing TV different commercials advertise unhealthy foods. When they see that it makes them want high and fatty foods.
The reasons why will be included in the final paper. Obesity can be managed and treated if really cared about. This is important because if people put in the time and energy, childhood obesity can decrease. Many examples of how to manage obesity in children were found: change the child’s eating habits, consume less
